Lucretia Mac Evil
Blood Sweat & Tears Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Little girl what's your game?
Hard luck and trouble
Bound to be your claim to fame
Tail-shakin' heart-breakin' truckin' through town
Each and every country-mother's son, hangin' 'round
Drive a young man insane
Evil that's your name
Lucretia MacEvil
That's the thing you're doin' fine
Back seat Delilah
Got your six bit jug o'wine, woman
I hear your mother was the talk of the sticks
Nothin' that your daddy wouldn't do for kicks
Never done a thing worth-while
You're just an evil woman-child

Ooh, Lucy, you just so damn bad

Devil got you lucy
Under lock and key
Ain't about to set you free
Sign sealed and witnessed
Since the day you were born
No use tryin' to fake him out
No use tryin' to make him out
Soon, he'll be takin' out his due
What-cha gonna do?

Lucy MacEvil
Honey ya been all night?
Your hair's all messed up, babe
An' the clothes you're wearin'
Just don't fit ya right
Big Daddy Joe's, payin' your monthly rent
Tells his wife he can't imagine where the money went
Dressin' you up in style, evil woman-child

Ooh, Lucy, you just so damn bad

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Blood Sweat & Tears's song Lucretia Mac Evil tell the story of a young woman, nicknamed Lucy, who is known for causing trouble and heartache wherever she goes. The lyrics suggest that she has a reputation for being promiscuous and that she uses her sexuality to manipulate men. The lyrics also imply that Lucy comes from a troubled background, with a mother who was the talk of the town and a father who would do anything for kicks. She is described as an "evil woman-child" who drives men insane and has a devil that has her under lock and key.

The song is a cautionary tale about the dangers of giving in to temptation and making bad choices. It suggests that Lucy's behavior is the result of her upbringing and that she is trapped by her own choices. The lyrics also suggest that Lucy's fate is sealed and that she is destined to face the consequences of her actions.

Overall, Lucretia Mac Evil is a powerful song that explores themes of temptation, desire, and regret. It is a warning to listeners about the dangers of living a life of excess and indulgence, and the price that must be paid for those choices in the end.

Damn right! 2nd favorite band ever! (Right after Jethro Tull, and just before Doctor Teeth and the Electric Mayhem!) (Sarcasm being what it is online, harder to recognize each day, I say my previous comments with NO Sarcasm at all! Best groups ever!)

This is a real find. The mix, particularly on the horns, is better than the original recording in the studio. I've followed this group from the beginning and in my view, this was the best band of them all. Fred Lipsius and Dick Halligan were the best arrangers the group ever had and D.C. Thomas proves that he truly was a great singer here. I idolized Lew Soloff when I was a teenager, too.

Kamar Bazarek

I’m a trumpeter, and I STILL idolize Lew!!!

Leaving BS&T was the best decision Al Kooper ever made.

My most favorite song of all the B,S&T’s is Lucretia MacEvil. First, Thomas' voice is amazing. Second, horn section is soooo brilliant.
Third, the bridge is kind of baroque music. Finally, the last chase by the horns and guitar is quite exciting. All the parts of the song are incredible!!!
