Foulmouthed Politicians
Blood Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
they talk about nature conservation - but they poor the waste in the water
they wants to save the trees - but they drive the biggest unclean cars
we love them all - they are our best friends
they would stop the animal slaughter - but they give money to support this
they talk about helping the 3rd world - but they only sell them military material
they say that we are a free state - but they supervise us with the police
(Eisen 9/87)
In "Foulmouthed Politicians," Blood is critiquing the hypocrisy of politicians who say one thing but do another. The first stanza points out how politicians talk about disarmament but continue to build new weapons, claiming to care about nature but then pollute the water, and professing to want to save trees while driving pollution-emitting cars. Despite these contradictions, the song says "we love them all - they are our best friends," which could be interpreted as an ironic commentary on how people continue to support politicians they know are lying to them.
Similarly, the second stanza points out the hypocrisy of politicians who claim to oppose animal slaughter but then support it with their funding, and talk about helping the third world while selling them military material. The politicians also claim that we live in a free state but then supervise citizens with police, suggesting that they do not truly prioritize individual freedoms. The final line, "we need them - we can't decide about us," could again be interpreted ironically, suggesting that the politicians have convinced us that we need them to make decisions for us despite the evident flaws in their policies.
