Couple of things - why ever use wand? This build gets nothing from it because it deals physical damage. Instead, it is better do dump couple of points into strength to use a melee weapon - builds focusing on blood magic almost never use their weapons, so you can focus on bonuses and there are some, like Lohar's Source Hammer with build in massive crit chance bonuses.

Also - far out man is not really necessary. It is useful, but it is wise to consider glass cannon. You want to unload all you have quickly and glass cannon allows just that.

Necromancy does not really have that many damaging skills to boot, and need to pump points into warfare leaves this type of builds dependant on cooldowns - you want to finish fights quickly, preferably deciding the outcome in first turn.
This is also why this type of build relies on skingraft and apotheosis from polymorph more than most - it works around your cooldowns.

That being said - this disadvantage of having few attacks is almost completely nullified if you stretch such a build into Lone Wolf - with this, you can max intelligence and strength and still have plenty of points for wits and memory.

@@wiinounete While it is true that wands bring intelligence buffs more often than melee weapons, this is a moot point in case of necromancy.
Weapons often bring warfare bonuses, which also buffs damage from necro spells AND more often appear with crit bonuses which are fairly important for builds relying on relatively few damaging abilities.
Mentioned Lohar's hammer gives +1 to warfare AND 20% crit chance right off the bat, which works on spells if you have savage sortilege.
Another notable weapon is Falone Scythe - this one gives bonuses to both warfare and intelligence on top of prominent crit chance bonus.
Mentioned weapons are a guaranteed finds as well.

Given the fact that in current version of the game you can't spam flame runes of power like before, because number of available slots has been nerfed... Critical chance items are more valuable than ever, really. Stuff with bonuses to attributes is quite common and you can boost intelligence quite significantly with various skills, like inner demon.

The thing is - critical damage, when dealt reliably boosts your damage potential more than bonuses from intelligence would by themselves.

As for wand autoattack - wands always deal magical damage. Necromancy deals almost exclusively physical damage - so the wand autoattack is useless, unless you have other team members who already stripped enemy magic armour.

The bloodmage build is simple, actually.
In terms of attributes:
Full intelligence
Put only enough strength (13 or 14 max if I recall) to be able to carry weapons you want, same goes for constitution if you want to carry a shield (might come in handy in some early areas but you will drop it eventually).
The rest goes into wits to pump the critical chance as high as possible.

In terms of skills:

The core of the build is 3 points of Necromancy and Hydrosophist.
That said - on early levels, 2 points in hydro is enough, 3 points is really only for Bloodstorm later on.
Remember - these skills won't increase your damage, so if you have gear that increases them, you may save skill points and respec.
You may want to put couple of points into pyro (for peace of mind) and huntsman (for tactical retreat - you NEED mobility + huntsman high ground damage bonus won't hurt either, it does work with spells)

Polymorph - for majority of the game, 3 points is enough - you need 5 only for Apotheosis and that is lvl 16.

Your main damage amplifier is Warfare - pump this as much as you can. Your secondary is Two Handed.

For talents:
Executioner is amazing.
Elemental affinity - just make a pool of blood and enjoy lowered action cost.
Hot Head - you will be almost always at full health anyway, besides - you should be able to deal massive damage before you take any hits. Take it only if you already have Savage Sortilege, though.
Savage Sortilege - essential for this build to work, because later levels depend on crits.
Glass Canon - you want max AP. Lack of protection from statuses is annoying, but massive increase in firepower is worth it.
The rest is up to you - avoid Leech as it removes pools of blood.

As for Polymorph's utility - mostly the obvious:
Skingraft is pretty much essential for this build to work. Apotheosis as well.
When it comes to other abilities - medusa head and spider legs add some gimmicky but powerful crowd control spread your wings is fantastic for mobility.
Flay skin is a fantastic debuff if you have magic damage dealers in a party.

Now, remember - bloodmage is sort of a late bloomer kind of build - you may want to play through Fort Joy as a pseudo fighter even, because early on, Necromancy has relatively few damaging spells, meaning you will spend a lot of times on cooldown.

This build actually is the most powerfull i've ever played in the game .. i've just changed a few things, i've added the skill "Apothéose" and "Skin graft" .. with 2 géo teleportation and permutation .. you can actually place everyone in the same zone, and destroy them in only one turn .. i'm playing a 4 man party and god i only play Sebile with this build and the rest even if they have a great stuff are just useless and never play xD

@@burakteke5417 yeah, really not good until half way through act 2 after you get grasp of the starved, but it's still manageable if your 2nd character is really strong like a ranger or rouge, though I wouldnt reccomend rouge with a blood mage if you're new to the game and dont know how best to utilise them.

The reason this is an in amazing build is since your leveling intelligence any way you can pickup other magic school skills and do good damage with them. And if your wiling to sacrifice some physical damage for added versitality. You can level a whole element. Hydrosphist sounds good since you’ll need four points to unlock the skills. Another 6 and you’ll be doing +50% water damage and you get a bonus to mosquito swarm. Not bad.

Should mention Decay and healing spells. Healing spells deal physical damage which is perfect for this build, always works on undead, and Decay allows it to work on anyone. This helps plug the gaps in your spell rotation.

Another mention goes to crowd control blocked by physical armor, such as Chicken Claw or crippling effects. Chicken Claw works on just about any enemy in the game!

I recommend getting torturer early then swapping it out for something you find more suitable. Pyrokinetic uses that to the fullest and is great through all the game but necromancy and it's bleeds fall off around the end of act 2 so picking any other good talent will be more beneficial like savage sortilege and hothead.

I can see a lone wolf build with this but this is experimental, just replace executioner with lone wolf. Also, with that said, if you want to max out your damage output, craft makeshift staff as you level up (165% Crit) since wands and staffs don't have good uses outside of the crafted ones, and with lone wolf increasing your stats you can replace the shield/wand combo with staff anyway. What element you want with your staff will depend if you get on the first try or not because the element is random (Maybe Fire with poison enchantment for max damage+DOT?). In place of shield bounce use battle stomp to knockdown your enemies early on, and rain down hell to punish them. Improv Staff Recipe (Log+Cutting Tool=Long Branch, Long Branch+Shell=Improv Staff).

Any build that has you splitting points between two primary damage stats is going to see you struggle, at least from a damage perspective. Lone wolves can pull it off, otherwise the character will likely quickly become bad at two things.

He's actually a necromancer and soldier hybrid, and I mostly use him as a supporting role. I really hope that later on he as a playable character will expand considerably.

I know this is an old comment but I found that the eternal warrior build from this channel works well with this build as it covers the arena with blood to be used by the warrior for healing from leech and blood sucker. If you use undead this is even better as bleed immunity eliminates friendly fire

Nope. It is level and then skill with geomancer/hydrosophist. A level 15 character with 5 int, and 10 points in hydro will heal the same amount as a level 15 with 50 int and 10 points in hydro. Same thing with armor. Level and skill only. So a strength or finesse based character is just as effective a healer/buffer as a int based one. But elemental skill buffs are more likely to be on int based gear.

Love these builds! But tell me, how does this Blood Mage fair against undead later on? I followed your build and already I bit it at fort Joy against my first undead. I accept I might do some something wrong, but just to be sure: does this build stand a chance against more powerful undead later on ingame? Or am I completely dependant on other party members when fighting undead?

I had a very rough time playing a glass cannon witch in divinity2 in co-op.
For whatever reason i was always targeted by all ranged enemies even though i always was further away from them and there also was a glass cannon archer and other mage.
Anybody knows how the AI works? I think it hates witches.

From what I understand all of the ai has very high loremaster so they can all see your stats, if an enemy know you can be knocked down. Or are very weak to a certain element they will abuse it. Making glass cannon pretty shit, if you aren't heavily using invis

if you play as an undead, wouldn´t contamination be a really nice skill? it deals poison dmg and heals you at the same time. altough you wouldn´t have any blood surface left for grasp of the dead ..

Hi. I play the Definitive version, And I was thinking to try this build. But I do have a question, for a Definitive playthrough would you put the "Torturer" Talent in there somewhere and if so which Talent would you have switched it for? I know this build can do some bleed and thought that "Torturer" could be useful for this build. I think torturer is good early on. Bleeding and burning is really effective for the first part of the game. But the damage for these tricks falls off mid game and the talent starts to feel less useful. It's a similar story for poisoned. The issue with Torturer is it only applies damage statuses and the damage caused by these doesn't scale well with the game. Damage statuses become less threatening to the enemy when they have enough life to shrug off the damage from the statuses. The effectiveness is further diminished as enemies start to have healing abilities, resistances, and immunities.
It's a good talent for the build and one of my personal favorites. But probably not for the highest damaging build.

Works great with all physical parties. So a generic setup would be a Warfare 1H or 2H tank, a bowman with summoning, a dual wield rogue, and blood mage.

It's supposed to be weak early. Combine it with summoning early on. Choose elf, use blood sacrifice and summon your minion and totem on your own blood. Both creatures will do extra physical dmg. Totem will cause bleed debuff any time it attacks an armourless target and creature will be equipped with mosquitoe swarm.

If you are into supporting go for water magic instead and buff your team.

At lvl 9 you can respec and focus on warfare to buff your necro dmg. Pretty much follow the guide.

I just started a new 4 person all physical party from Fextralifes builds and it is working out perfectly so far (still in act 1). Main is persuasive elf using his "eternal warrior" build, Sibelle as the above "blood mage" and build starting as inquisitor and covering lore master. Ifan as my bartering "Ranger" starts as a wayfarer and covers pet pal and Fane as a 2 dagger Shadowblade that handles thief skills.

So here goes MY WAY for the IMMORTAL WATER MAGE UNDEAD
First of all, i know how this game works so listen to me before anything
As the immortal undead chad with gives no shit about "Restoration deals damage to undead", He maxes Necromancy and Hydro so he can deal decent damage and support him team, most importantly - Himself.
Necromancy's heal works by damaging yourself and is multiplied by the Vitality restore from high Hydro level
With around 18 points in both necro and hydro, maxed out int and consti you will achieve around 4 K heals from 1 k damage to yourself with a restoration (With a crit)
I suggest Fane for this so he has bonus points
Also, you can use huge potions + Shackles of pain to oneshot anyone whos armor dropped to 0

You've most likely got your party by now but I'm running a custom elf Necromancer main too. I went with Fane as a 2-Handed Warrior, Red Prince as a mixed Fire/Warfare Spellsword, and Lohse as a Summoner/Buffer. This is my first playthrough so I'm running a mixed damage party, I've heard it's generally better to do all physical or all magic for optimisation but this party has been really fun so far.

Level 16 in act 3 is normal (usually start act 3 lvl 16-17 and leave at level 17-18, assuming you are kinda completionist). Party of 1 is perfectly playable if you're lone wolf, though you had the option of getting a companion earlier if you wanted.

I realy like this game altough I am still very new. I have 15h and I am taking my time with the first island. However since I didnt know how the game worked, I made a crappy build (pyro fane I guess) that just doesn't do it for me. Staff is better than wand/shield the two-hand skill is far better damage than scoundrel unless you desperately need the armor from shield. Also for maximizing elemental affinity and ap usage pawn is better than executioner unless lone wolf.
The craft masks to change race not the full shape-shifter one allows to to change race and keep a helmet so starting as an elf isn't necessary or if you want to play as an undead. You missed out on some useful hybrid skills like vacuum touch/aura and corrosive touch/spray. Although corrosive touch is currently bugged and can only be obtained through mods that allow to purchase ever skill book or through eating a corpse in act 3.

They fixed the bug, corossive touch is now craftable as it should be, just simple necro / geo spell (tested yesterday). I have simillar build in my current playthrought but i'm focusing more on Necro / Geo combination (10 warfare, 5necro, 4geo, 1 hydro). This build have more options how to deal physical dmg (with corosive touch and corosive spray), also geo have some good CC checked against physical armor like earthquake. This build is good to full physical party, but i wouldn't recommend it to party with other casters focused on hydro or aero.

I won't argue the elf thing and you are spot on with The Pawn. But what are you talking about with staff? You won't get the warfare bonus because staves do elemental damage so smacking ,or Staff of Magus is still bad; and the two-hand skill and scoundrel both buff 5% crit damage. It is the same--and one buffs movespeed. So, I don't understand the rationale. Shield gives access to bouncing shield which stays one of the best skills in the game until super late game. It does great damage on a 2 turn cooldown that can hit two targets, it's like top tier bread and butter move.

Two-hand is 50% dmg + 50% crit dmg that's why it is more damage than scoundral. You take staff purely for getting two-handed skill unless you want to put points into str and use a different two-handed then you get more armor choices. You shouldn't need to auto attack with your staff if you rotate your abilities well; you also have access to warfare which you could take things like battering ram or battle stomp purely for cc. Could also take poly for skin graft and additional stat points.

The +dmg in Two-Handed affects ONLY the weapon itself and not the skills, hence it is completely wasted in a build like the BM. Still Staves have higher +Crit chance and +Int bonuses but for this particular build such bonuses cannot compensate the ability to use skills like Bouncing Shield and Deflection from Warfare, hence Scoundrel and Wand + Shield - as the OP suggested - is a better choice.

I found that in the early game it’s neat, i played Sebille that way - focus entirely on your dagger ability, skill up necromancy, get the leech talent and two good daggers.
Backstab, flesh sacrifice, backstab, then bloated corpse, chloroform or backstab, flesh sacrifice and flurry. Regenerate health with each attack, by standing in blood or by using your blood sucker skill if needed (which won’t happen often).

I think they moderately nerfed damage of some of the AOE skills, like Grasp of the Starved and Bloodstorm. Nothing critical, though, especially if you use buffing abilities from Polymorph and stuff like Inner Demon - necromancers are still obscenely powerful.
Besides, there is one thing this build does not mention - necro can work as a secondary or even primary healer - because you will have points in hydro for Rain of Blood and Bloodstorm anyway. On top of that - necro is the only source of resurrection other than scrolls - so it is worth it for utility purposes as well.

What level are you here in Act ii and how the hell do you get a intelligence of 52?

Intelligence on that level is quite easy, really. Characters shown are level 16. If you were pumping everything into intelligence thus far, you should easily reach 40 int by that time.
The rest are simple bonuses from items. There are 2 rune slots used - assuming these are giant runes using rune frames of power - that alone is +6 intelligence.
The chest piece is a unique armour - given the icon is that of a highest tier... and there is only one of those in act 2 - that is very likely a Magister's Cloak - and that is another 2 points in intelligence. The rest goes from other items - most likely hood, amulet and wand.

The reason it isn't as good as a Lone Wolf, is because you have a lack of damaging Skills in Act 1. Once you have access to Source in Act 2 you can literally 1 use Blood Storm and just 1 shot everything. It will be great from that point forward, but not until then.

I used it in lone wolves. bht he's right you can respec later. except you can corpse explosion and teleport early, that helps if you really want to do it. Also, picture of health is amazing with this on lonewolf because your warfare is so high

Right - one option in LW is to craft corpse explosion ASAP if you want to be pure necro. The other I option I did was start with 2 necro 2 summoner, and rush 10 summoner. You only need to learn incarnate and power infusion which isn't much of a skillbook investment. The incarnate will easily get you through Act 1. After that, you can remain a hybrid summoner that uses blood incarnate/bone widow, or you can spec out of it and go into massive warfare damage once you have mass corpse explosion and/or grasp of the starved.

Yes it isn't intended to be a Lone Wolf Build because Blood Mages lack damage in Act 1. In Act 2 you could switch to Lone Wolf if you want once you gain Source Skills, but I wouldn't before then.

Warfare increases your physical damage. All the spells he is using deal physical damage making warfare a good pick to increase damage. The reason for putting points into intelligence is due to the spells he is using scaling with intelligence (mosquito swarm, infect, corpse explosion, etc) . Not the most intuitive build, but it works! I would recommend a melee weapon not a wand, for it allows you to equip some strength gear (due to the +strength your weapon should be giving) and allows you to use battering ram and battle stomp (two great cc abilities). Bouncing shield does a lot of damage so make sure you always have a level appropriate and high physical armor one equipped (bouncing shield scales off the physical armor of your shield).

thanks for pointing out warfare boosts necro (physical) damage. corpse explosion has such weird dmg scaling considering the skill isnt made by using any warfare books.
I still wonder how much this build relies on your friends to chew through their physical armour since you lack anything to do so with this build aside from spells / bouncing shield.

And i think they have done something to Flesh Sacrifice. Doesn't matter how many points I put in Constitution. Flesh Sacrifice always reduces my constitution with so much that i have the base 10 points. So the shield will always be unequipped. But this build looked good for sure.

Why warfare and not polymorph for int points?

warfare gives 15% physical damage for each point. Blood mage deals physical damage,so it is better to 15% more damage than 1 int

Yes, but if you put points into summoning you are reducing the points you can put into necromancer/warfare

@@echo.1209 yeah sure but I think a few points in summoning wouldn't hurt this build too bad. you'll max out warfare and necromancer anyways... I'd much rather go for summon dmg than auto attack dmg since that would be magic dmg...

Mister Fister I mean, with the whole “undead minions” you can only have one summon active at once anyways. Unless using totems. I wasn’t saying you can’t use summons, but just stating that the reason why it would retract from overall damage is because of the less points into warfare.

Warfare increases your physical damage. All the spells he is using deal physical damage making warfare a good pick to increase damage. The reason for putting points into intelligence is due to the spells he is using scaling with intelligence (mosquito swarm, infect, corpse explosion, etc). Not the most intuitive build, but it works! I would recommend a melee weapon not a wand, for it allows you to equip some strength gear (due to the +strength your weapon should be giving) and allows you to use battering ram and battle stomp (two great cc abilities). Bouncing shield does a lot of damage so make sure you always have a level appropriate and high physical armor one equipped (bouncing shield scales off the physical armor of your shield).

A fire spell deals fire damage. An electric spell deals lightning damage. Now what do you think a necromantic spell does? Will a necromantic spell burn a target? Freeze a target? Shock them? Uh, nope.

Of course necromancer skills deal physical, because they attack the flesh directly, and cause bleeding.

@@leinswaisbrick Wellp, where do you find Dark Magic in Divinity? Nowhere, aside from possibly the Voidwoken, which we can't play as. And how does Necromancy affect the body? It rips it apart physically.

Soooo, logically, physical damage makes complete sense. Necromancy can be dark yes, but it not purely about using dark magic, its about manipulating anatomy with magic, which is physical lol.
