Your Only Friends Are Make Believe
Bloodhound Gang Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Yea well I sing like an amputee though
Why?
'Cause can't hold a note can't carry a tune
(Lupus proceeds to laugh a little too hard at Jimmy Pop's stupid joke)

Knock knock Mr. Rogers it's Mr. McFeelie
I've brought you a letter speedy delivery
Well Mr. McFeelie if there's postage due
You can go fuck yourself like Captain Kangaroo

I can go to land of make believe and I can pretend
But in the end I still have no friends
Do do do do do do do do do
Do do do do do do do do do

Mr. Rogers I like your cardigan sweater
Mr. McFeelie shut up and give me my letter
I don't want to talk to you don't you understand?
Why are you inside my house you're just my fuckin' mailman?

I can go to land of make believe and I can pretend
But in the end I still have no friends
Do do do do do do do do do
Do do do do do do do do do

You can go to land of make believe and you can pretend
But in the end you still have no friends
Do do do do do do do do do
Do do do do do do do do do

You are my best friend too
I share the same views and hardly ever argue
Eat Spam from the can watch late night see-Span
And rock out to old school Duran Duran

Your best friend is you I'm my best friend too
I share the same views and hardly ever argue

Eat Spam from the can watch late night see-Span
And rock out to old school Duran Duran

Overall Meaning

The lyric "Yea well I sing like an amputee though, why? 'Cause can't hold a note can't carry a tune," suggests that the singer either cannot sing well or is disabled. The next line, "Lupus proceeds to laugh a little too hard at Jimmy Pop's stupid joke," implies that the singer is making a self-deprecating joke, and his friend Lupus is amused by it. The lyrics then turn to a parody of the television show Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood, with the singer knocking on Mr. Rogers' door and introducing himself as Mr. McFeelie, a character from the show who delivers letters promptly. When Mr. Rogers asks about postage due, the singer responds with an insult to another children's show character, Captain Kangaroo. This line suggests that the singer is cynical and irreverent.

The chorus, "I can go to land of make believe and I can pretend. But in the end, I still have no friends," is repeated several times. This provides some insight into the singer's character - he struggles with loneliness and perhaps uses his wit and humor as a coping mechanism. The next verse continues the Mr. Rogers parody, with the singer insulting Mr. McFeelie and questioning why he is in the singer's house. This further emphasizes the singer's cantankerous nature.

The final verse is a bit of a twist - the singer reveals that he considers himself his own best friend. He shares common interests and values with himself and rarely argues with himself. The line "eat Spam from the can watch late night see-Span and rock out to old school Duran Duran" is a glimpse into the singer's personal life, and it suggests that he is perhaps a bit eccentric.

Best part of the whole song is the end when the whole tune is Duran Duran - Hungry Like the Wolf. @ 3:40 it's

"Burning the ground, I break from the crowd
I'm on the hunt, I'm after you
Scent and a sound, I'm lost and I'm found
And I'm hungry like the wolf
Strut on a line, it's discord and rhyme
I'm on the hunt, I'm after you
Mouth is alive all running inside"

Excellente.

I listened to so much Bloodhound Gang in highschool. Going back to experience the videos after a couple decades is just mesmerizing. the message, the randomness and the lyrics are timeless.

@BadMarriageKawagoe

Nice. In my town there's some lyrics from Great White Dope spray painted on a wall. It's been there for 15 years. It was me when I was in highschool.

@malik87breaker

It was in my memory core. I remembered nothing about anything but the dudududu part (lol).
Didn't knew it was so good as this :D
