"" Formed in 1992 and comprised of members Scott Angelacos (vocals), Matt Easley (guitar), Art Legre (bass), and John Stewart Jr. (drums), Bloodlet specializes in a form of hardcore that's even more angst ridden and brutal than most of their counterparts. Issuing several singles straight away, Bloodlet signed on with the renowned hardcore label Victory not long after their formation, resulting in a trio of releases during the mid to late ‘90s -- 1995's Eclectic (a compilation of their aforementioned early singles), 1996's Entheogen, and 1998's Seraphim Fall, before splitting up. Little was heard from Bloodlet's former members, as most dispersed to other locales. But during their retirement, several up and coming hardcore groups began name checking Bloodlet as an important influence (especially Eighteen Visions, among others), and by late 2001, Bloodlet had reunited and was rehearsing once more. Hooking up with renowned indie producer Steve Albini, Bloodlet issued their fourth release overall in 2002, the hard hitting Three Humid Nights in the Cypress Trees -- picking up exactly where they'd left off several years earlier.

But it already began
A lifetime of consequence unleashed in a moment
I rolled up on the end
With my dick in my hand
Where had the time gone and who are my friends
I came to see the end I saw it second hand
Unholy waters heaven sent to take the lamb
What you believe at least that's what they said
I wish that someone
Would stop me from driving into the sun
I hope that someone
Will be there when I crash and burn
I hear it's unhealthy to inhale methane through a hollow stick
But you'd eat a shit sandwich if you thought it would make you look slick
Down here we don't take unkindly to your metal debauchery
I came to see the end but it already began
I sat down with misery and we became friends
We rolled up on the end
Helluva time we all had
Now that we've been there we won't come back again
I hear it's unhealthy to inhale methane through a hollow stick
Although the motive is still suspect the outcome remains the same
The bleeding injustice you've unearthed smells of its disdain
The lyrics of Bloodlet's song Vision Quest seem to be about a person's journey to the end of their life. They start by expressing a sense of surprise that the end has already begun before they even got there. They mention a "lifetime of consequence" that is unleashed in a single moment, perhaps reflecting on the consequences of their actions throughout their life coming to a head at the end. The line "with my dick in my hand" suggests a feeling of vulnerability and exposure.
The second verse touches on the theme of mortality even further, with the singer seeing the end "second hand" and witnessing "unholy waters" sent to "take the lamb" - perhaps a metaphor for death. The subsequent line "there comes a time my friend when you must defend what you believe" suggests that the singer is grappling with their beliefs in the face of death.
The final verse brings in a sense of nihilism and cynicism. The singer wishes for someone to stop them from driving into the sun, which could be interpreted as a desire to end their own life. They also comment on society's values, with a line about how people will do anything if they think it will make them look good. The song ends with a mention of "bleeding injustice" which "smells of its disdain," perhaps a commentary on the unfairness of life.
Overall, the lyrics of Vision Quest are dark and introspective, exploring themes of mortality, regret, and cynicism.
