The Best Is Yet to Come

You came along and everything's startin' to hum
Still, it's a real good bet, the best is yet to come
Best is yet to come and babe, won't that be fine?
You think you've seen the sun, but you ain't seen it shine
Wait till the warm-up's underway
Wait till our lips have met
And wait till you see that sunshine day
The best is yet to come and babe, won't it be fine?
Best is yet to come, come the day you're mine
Come the day you're mine
I'm gonna teach you to fly
We've only tasted the wine
We're gonna drain the cup dry
Wait till your charms are right for these arms to surround
You think you've flown before, but baby, you ain't left the ground
Wait till you're locked in my embrace
Wait till I draw you near
Wait till you see that sunshine place
Ain't nothin' like it here
The best is yet to come and babe, won't it be fine?
The best is yet to come, come the day you're mine
Come the day you're mine
And you're gonna be mine
The lyrics of Blossom Dearie's song "The Best Is Yet to Come" speak to the idea that life is full of possibilities and that the best is still to come. The singer describes feeling like they just plucked a plum from the "tree of life" before a special someone came along and brought new energy and excitement into their life. Even with this newfound happiness, the singer insists that there is still so much more to come and that nothing compares to the joy that they will experience in the future.
The lyrics then go on to suggest the singer's eagerness to share their life with this special someone, to teach them to fly and to experience all of the pleasures of life together. The singer seems to be confident that the best is yet to come, until the day when they will finally be together and can experience all of the riches that life has to offer.
The song's optimistic message and playful, upbeat tune make it a classic that has endured for decades. Its themes of love and hope continue to resonate with listeners of all ages and backgrounds. Through the story of a blossoming romance, "The Best Is Yet to Come" encourages listeners to embrace the opportunities that lie ahead and to look forward to the future with excitement and optimism.
