Your Girlfriend
Blossoms Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm a boy
And she's a girl
With more charm than most movie stars
So we met
Through a friend
We rent a place and she comes round to stay

And now your girlfriend is ringing in my ears again
It's no sure shot but she likes all my favorite things
I know I shouldn't but I'd like to spend more time with her
I wish she'd come over today

What am I supposed to do?
I can tell they get along so well
Is it possible, she likes me too?
I'm not sure if I should read between those lines

And now your girlfriend is ringing in my ears again
I should be moving out but can't 'cause we've just signed a lease
My hands are shaking, the bedroom walls are paper thin
I heard her come over today

Thought maybe we'd go out for a movie
And we can forget friends who'll be fuming
Then I could walk you home in the evening
And that's just being friendly

And now your girlfriend is ringing in my ears again
And when she smiles, I can't hide my jealousy
Oh I can't take it, boy, I hope she's faking it
I heard he bought a ring today

I heard they got engaged today

Overall Meaning

The song 'Your Girlfriend' by Blossoms is a story of a young man who becomes friends with a girl who happens to be his friend's girlfriend. He is infatuated with her charm and beauty, and although he knows he shouldn't, he wishes he could spend more time with her. He is confused about her true intentions and whether there's any possibility that she might like him too. He becomes increasingly jealous of his friend, who is in a relationship with the girl he desires.

Musically, the song starts with a catchy guitar riff and is driven by a pulsating beat. The lyrics are delivered in a contemplative and resigned manner, as the singer is aware of the inherent difficulties of his situation. The chorus, which repeats the phrase "Your girlfriend is ringing in my ears again," creates a sense of obsession and frustration.

The song deals with the theme of unrequited love and the complexity of human relationships. It portrays the singer's longing for something that he cannot have, and the emotional turmoil he experiences as a result. It also explores the delicate balance between friendship and attraction, and the potential pitfalls of crossing that line.

My mates call me “The Birthday Nonce” because of Blossoms.

We went to see them in Newcastle in May, 2018. I was driving from Boro so my mates were drunk and I wasn’t. I left my strat in my car in case they did autographs at the end and I was mad keen to get Chaz or Tom to sign it.

But when the gig did finish, we got lost going out the o2 and ended up around the side where no one was. At this point, Josh appeared from the side of the building and me and my two mates caught eye contact with him. My two mates were drunk so they confidently were saying how “tight the set was” and my mates were asking him about his pedal set up etc, they were having decent crack and it was sound.

I was a bit nervous so when my mate said to Josh “my mate has something to ask you” - meaning to sign my guitar, I completely panicked, froze and in a proper high pitched voice said “I’ve got the same birthday as you”. josh looked a bit like “this guy is a fucking weird one” but he said politely “when’s your birthday like?” I said “9th of March 97” and he said “oh mines 10th of March 97”. My mates were pissing themselves, not only did this guy think I must be weird as fuck knowing when my birthday is, but he’s also gotten it fucking wrong the creep.

My mates have never let me live it down, I get called “the birthday nonce” daily. Hopefully one day I’ll get my strat signed ffs.

Don't understand how the comments aren't saying how much a banger this is, really wish it was a verse or two longer.
