Blue Öyster Cult have been described as heavy metal, light metal, psychedelic rock, occult rock, acid rock, and progressive rock. They have also been recognized for helping pioneer genres such as stoner metal and speed metal.
The band is influenced by artists such as Alice Cooper, Grateful Dead, The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, MC5, The Blues Project, Jimi Hendrix, and Black Sabbath.
While Blue Öyster Cult has been noted for heavy rock, they would often add their own tongue-in-cheek style. Keeping with their image, the band would often include out-of-context fragments of Pearlman’s The Soft Doctrines of Imaginos into their lyrics, giving their songs cryptic meanings. Additionally, the band would keep a folder of Meltzer’s and Pearlman’s word associations to insert into their music.
Blue Öyster Cult's longest-lasting and most commercially successful lineup included Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser (lead guitar, vocals), Eric Bloom (lead vocals, "stun guitar," keyboards, synthesizers), Allen Lanier (keyboards, rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Joe Bouchard (bass, backing vocals), Albert Bouchard (drums, percussion, backing vocals). The band's current lineup includes Roeser and Bloom, as well as Danny Miranda (bass, backing vocals), Jules Radino (drums, percussion) and Richie Castellano (keyboard, rhythm guitar, backing vocals).

I walked out late into the dark
The misty gloom seems to soak up my sorrow
The further I went on I felt a spreading calm
Then suddenly my eyes were bathed in a light
And the lovely lady in white was by my side
She said "Like me I see you're walking alone
Won't you please stay?" I couldn't look away
She said I love the night
The day is OK and the sun can be fun
But I live to see those rays slip away
I love the night
There's so much I can show and give to you
If you will welcome me tonight
If only you had been there my dear
We could have shared this together
No mortal was meant to see such wonder
One look in the mirror told me so
Come darkness I'll see her again
Yes I'm gonna go 'cause now I know
She said I love the night
The day is OK and the sun can be fun
But I live to see those rays slip away
I love the night
There's so much that I can show and give to you
If you will welcome me tonight
If only you had been there my dear
We could have shared this together
The lyrics to "I Love The Night" by Blue Öyster Cult tell a story of a man who goes for a walk after a breakup, feeling sorrowful as he walks in the misty gloom of the night. Suddenly, a mysterious woman in a white dress appears by his side, asking him to stay and telling him she loves the night because there is so much to show and give. The man is tempted by her offer and agrees to stay, being drawn in by her beauty and the wonder of the night. However, he realizes that no human is meant to see such wonder and that he can only experience it through her. He decides to go with her into the night, believing they could have shared it together if only she had been there earlier.
The lyrics of "I Love The Night" are full of symbolism and metaphors, creating a sense of mystery and enchantment. The woman in white is a symbol of purity and grace, drawing the man into her world of magic and wonder. The night itself is portrayed as a magical time full of possibilities and wonder, a stark contrast to the mundane and ordinary day. The lyrics suggest that there is more to life than what meets the eye, and that sometimes we need to be open to new experiences and possibilities in order to fully appreciate the world around us.

In my head, I thought about y it being kind of Vampire-ish, but my head pictured something else. Buckle up.
So at first the dude just broke up with his girlfriend about a week ago, and he’s super depressed
One day after she comes to visit he walks outside for some air. He sees this bright, bright light and ends up seeing the girl in white.
They chat for a bit when she says how much she loves the night. Since he lives in the city, he can’t really see the stars that good, so she starts floating and grabs his hand, taking him to the country side and showing him. It blows his mind.
Day after day he meets her at night, and he starts noticing changes. He seems beat up, and everyone notices him seeming tired all the time. He meets her ever night now on, and ends up falling in love with her.
But he’s too obsessed with this girl, he never really realized that the night he saw the bright light he was hit by a car.
When the girlfriend comes to visit him, he is staring in the mirror. His once yellowish hair is now completely white, and he smiling, getting prepared to meet her again.
Then the girlfriend burst through the door as she sees him by the window. She runs towards him, but he jumps, singing at the top of his lungs how he loves the night. He falls, but his soul floats towards the girl in white, and they fly away, as the girlfriend panics looking down at the dead body.

One night I was out for a drive in the open hills of Western NY. It was a dark and stormy night with non stop lightning but no rain. This came on the radio. I zoned out lost in the moment, the music cruising the hills with the lightning show ...the entire experience was incredibly mezmirizing. It was beautiful.
@m.scottreeder
I’ll bet that WAS a surreal experience!
@TailgunnerATC
@M. Scott Reeder it was absolutely incredible. Probably one of the most beautiful moments in my life.
@m.scottreeder
@TailgunnerATC I used to cruise around on Friday and Saturday nights sipping ice cold, smooth refreshing Budweiser beer, and inhaling a green leafy substance while jamming to the Eagles, Bad Company, and most certainly Blue Oyster Cult. During the sunrise one morning, I was taking a female friend home after an all-nighter of cruising. The long version to “Closer To Home (I’m Your Captain)” by Grand Funk Railroad came on. We both became absorbed to the song, she especially. Very cool moment and memory.
