Since Sandy West actually resided in the west, she often referred to the group as bi-coastal.
West often switched between playing drums and guitar when performing her songs from the Sandy West Band. Blue Fox also performed Runaways songs in addition to West's solo tracks and in 2004 they began working on original material.
After playing some shows in New Jersey and New York they entered the studio and recorded what would be West's final tracks. Upon returning to California West was diagnosed with lung cancer and she eventually succombed to the disease in 2006. These songs remain unreleased.
In 2006, the remaining members of Blue Fox joined with other previous bandmates of West's and performed as the Sandy West Band at a memorial concert that was held as a loving tribute for West at The Knitting Factory in Hollywood, CA. A highlight of the set was when the band was joined onstage by Runaways singer Cherie Currie for the song "I Wanna Be Where The Boys Are". Other groups who performed that night included The Bangles, The Donnas and The Adolescents.
After a long hiatus, the band reformed in 2009 with new members and they recorded the Roger Taylor track "Modern Times Rock N' Roll" for the album "Horsefeathers and Animal Crackers- A Tribute to Queen" for Main Man Records in 2009. The track is dedicated to the memory of Sandy West, who was not only a huge Queen fan, but also close friends with members Brian May and Roger Taylor, whom West sited as one of her favorite drummers.
