1. Blue Magic, an American R&B vocal quintet whose members were Theodore Mills, Vernon Sawyer, Wendell Sawyer, Keith Beaton, and Richard Pratt, was formed in Philadelphia and signed to Atlantic Records in 1973. They hit the Top 40 of the R&B singles chart with their first three 45s before breaking through and crossing over with "Sideshow," released in April 1974, which went gold, topped the R&B charts, and became a Top Ten pop hit. "Three Ring Circus," their next single, made the R&B Top Ten and the pop Top 40. Blue Magic had two more R&B chart singles in 1975 and four in 1976 before suffering a career slump, but they still managed to influence many artists, such as The Mighty Majors ('You can Never go Back'), which opened a show for them once. Still, they returned with R&B chart singles in 1981 and 1983 and made a comeback album, From Out of the Blue, in 1989.

Stringin Me Along
Blue Magic Lyrics

How can I go on
You're just stringin me along
Tired of holdin on
To a dream
Every time I see your face
I know it's the same
Because it's your game
Gave you all the best of me
(Of me)
But you were to blind to see
Well, I've taken all I can take
And that string is about to break
You're just stringin me along
How can I go on
You're just stringin me along
Tired of holdin on
You're just stringin me along
Tired of holdin on
To a dream
Morning comes and you're not here
I wait all alone
Packed my bags I'm leavin here
Goodbye - Yes, I'm gone
Think it's time for us to part
(To part)
I have to try to save my heart
Well, I've taken all I can take
And that string is about to break
You're just stringin me along
How can I go on
You're just stringin me along
Tired of holdin on
You're just stringin me along
How can I hold on
To a dream
Gave you all the best of me
(Of me)
But you were to blind to see
Well, I've taken all I can take
And that string is about to break
You're just stringin me along
How can I go on
You're just stringin me along
Tired of holdin on
You're just stringin me along
Tired of holdin on
To a dream
Ohh, stringin me along
You're just stringin me along
Takin' me for a ride
Stringin me along
You're just stringin me along
Stringin me along
You're just stringin me along
You're just takin me for a ride
Stringin me along, oh
Stringin me along
You're just stringin me along
Stringin me along
You're just stringin me along
The lyrics to Blue Magic's song "Stringin' Me Along" tell the story of a person who's had enough of being led on by someone they care about. The singer addresses their lover, accusing them of playing games and leading them on without any intention of committing to a relationship. The singer has tried their best to make things work, but they've come to the realization that their lover will never change their ways. The phrase "stringin' me along" is used as a metaphor for being led on and strung along like a puppet. The singer feels trapped in a dream that can never become a reality and has grown tired of holding on.
The singer asks how they can go on with the relationship if their lover keeps stringing them along. They decide to leave and take their heart with them, realizing that it's time to end the toxic relationship. The phrase "the string is about to break" alludes to the final straw, where the singer has had enough and can't take it anymore.
The lyrics are emotional and relatable, as many people have been in a similar situation in their love lives. The song has a slow, soulful rhythm that amplifies the melancholic tone of the lyrics. The use of repetition in the chorus highlights the singer's sense of frustration and desperation.
