The Current
Blue Man Group (feat. Gavin Rossdale) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Going down
Going down
Down where my breath is the only sound
Going down

Going down
Going down
Don't look for me now I'm not around
All day long I'm underground

I've been thinking about the future
I've been waiting for the day
Let the current carry me... far away
Let the current carry me away

Color flows
But I don't know where it goes
I don't care
I just get it there
Took this job
'Cause I needed one
Now it's seven years since I've seen the sun
All day long I'm underground

I've been thinking about the future
I've been waiting for the day
Let the current carry me... far away
Let the current carry me away
And I've been thinking about the future
I hope someday that I'll get away
But the current keeps bringing me back around
Seems the only place for me is underground
So tomorrow when the sun comes out
I'll be going down

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to the song "The Current" by Blue Man Group (feat. Gavin Rossdale) describe the feeling of being stuck in a situation that the person doesn't want to be in. The singer talks about being underground all day long and waiting for the day when he can be carried away by the current to a future he thinks will be better but not sure where it will take him. He took a job just because he needed one, but now it has been seven years since he's seen the sun. He doesn't care where the color flows as long as he gets it there. The singer has been thinking about the future and hopes someday he'll get away. But the current keeps bringing him back around, and the only place for him is underground. The song ends with the singer saying that tomorrow when the sun comes out, he'll be going down.

Same bro! Thanks for making me feel old, been listening to this since I was 10! Loved terminator haha

@craigbeasley3120

It was great for the movie, too. John Connor had basically gone off the grid and become a non-person, thinking his life now consisted of just needing to stay out of sight. The story of the song matches that, and the grind of the vocals and relentless tune was the waiting reality...

@HiroshiMizushima

Such an underrated song.

Pretty much one of the best live shows you'll ever see. Up there with NIN and Bare Naked Ladies in My opinion. Even Security rocks out in the aisle at Blue Man shows in Vegas.
