5 Will Get You Six
Blue Rodeo Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The street the street the street the street
Shiny buckles jangle to the beat
The beat the beat the beat the beat
Hair just right he knows he's looking cool tonight
He hopes he finds her in the neon light
Insurrection acts just like a prayer Bad intentions collar turned against the wind
It's such a simple twist you just flick the switch
It's so easy to forget a life like this a life like this
He doesn't care he's had a taste
It's such a simple contortion
No easy solution
It's an act of faith
Still 5 will get you six if you play the dice right
5'll get you six if you play the dice right
5'll get you six if you play the dice right
5'll get you six boy
Insurrection acts just like a prayer
Bad intentions collar turned against the wind
It's such a simple twist you just flick the switch
It's so easy to forget a life like this a life like this
Still 5 will get you six
If you play the dice right
5'll get you six if you play the dice right
5'll get you six if you play the dice right
5'll get you six boy
In "5 Will Get You Six", Blue Rodeo tells the story of a guy who is out for a night on the town, hoping to find the girl of his dreams. He's dressed to impress, with pointy shoes, shiny buckles, and carefully styled hair. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of the scene, with the repetition of "the street" and "the beat" emphasizing the pulsing energy of the nightlife.
However, amidst the excitement and glamour, there are darker undertones. The song likens the feeling of rebellion and danger to a prayer, and suggests that it's easy to forget the true cost of living this kind of life. The phrase "bad intentions collar turned against the wind" paints a picture of someone trying to be tough or rebellious, but ultimately just fighting against themselves.
The chorus brings in the idea of gambling, with the repeated phrase "5 will get you six if you play the dice right". This could be interpreted as a metaphor for taking risks in life - sometimes you win big, but other times you lose everything.
Overall, "5 Will Get You Six" is a song that explores the excitement and danger of living on the edge. It's a cautionary tale about the risks of chasing after something that might not be worth the cost.
