Flaming Bed
Blue Rodeo Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
A flaming bed
A flaming bed
I know that you can't be with me
Until I start talking some kind of sense
But nothing makes sense to me now
Can't find the thread no place to rest
And I don't know what normal means
Your flame burns pure
That's what I fear
I see so much
You make me real
I see so much
From everywhere to nowhere
From nowhere to here
Nowhere to here
Nowhere to here
Nowhere to here
To everywhere
Last night I woke up in a flaming bed
The lyrics to Blue Rodeo's song "Flaming Bed" seem to describe the tumultuous inner turmoil of the singer, who is experiencing intense emotions and feeling lost and confused. The line "Last night I woke up in a flaming bed" suggests that the singer may be facing a metaphorical fire or crisis in their life, that they are struggling to understand or overcome. It could also be interpreted as a reference to their personal relationships, the passion or intensity of which is consuming them entirely.
The singer acknowledges that they are unable to be with someone until they start talking some kind of sense, therefore emphasising their feeling of hopelessness and reflection. The line "nothing makes sense to me now" seems to reflect the singer's confusion and inability to make sense of their own thoughts and feelings. The line "Can't find the thread no place to rest" seems to suggest that they are struggling to find their way, to find a path to follow, and they are unable to find any peace or calm in their life.
The chorus parts of the song seem to be about the singer's relationship with their partner. They express fear of being consumed by the relationship depicted through the lines "Your flame burns pure, that's what I fear". This fear is contrasted with the comfort and grounding the partner provides, "You make me real, I see so much". The part "From everywhere to nowhere, From nowhere to Here, Nowhere to here to everywhere" might suggest that the singer is reflecting on how love can take you on a journey and it can be complicated, but it can also make you feel alive and present.
