Flying
Blue Rodeo Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'm just wondering why you changed your mind
Happens all the time
How does it feel to have a winning hand
From a first-rate failure
To the leader in the chosen land
People never understand
If the world keeps spinning 'round
You said if you were on your own
You could really fly
Fly
While you're up there
Turn around and touch the sky
I guess the point of getting out
Is never saying goodbye
You learn your lessons in the hardest times
Run out of patience
Lean on the bold faced lie
People never wonder why
I feel too tired to scream and shout
Left in the sun 'til the colors all fade out
If the world keeps spinning 'round
It'll be alright
You left us long ago
So you could really fly
The song "Flying" by Blue Rodeo is a melancholic and introspective ballad about the pain of loss and the bittersweet feeling of watching someone you love achieve their dreams while you are left behind. The lyrics are cryptic and ambiguous, leaving plenty of room for interpretation, but the overall mood is one of resignation and acceptance.
The song starts with the singer wondering why their loved one changed and left them behind after they became successful. The chorus reassures the listener that as long as the world keeps spinning, everything will be alright. The second verse delves deeper into the emotions of the singer, describing how they feel exhausted and defeated, but still holding onto hope that they will eventually be able to move on.
The lyrics also touch on the theme of learning important life lessons through hard times and making the best of the situation, even when it seems hopeless. The closing lines of the song suggest that the singer's loved one has passed away, yet they find solace in the knowledge that they are finally able to "fly."
Overall, "Flying" is a poignant and evocative song that showcases Blue Rodeo's ability to capture complex emotions through their music.
