Blue Rodeo Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
With you so far away
I stand in front of this Ferris wheel
And I wonder what am I doing here
And I wonder what am I doing here
And all the drunks just stumble by
And mumble their abuse
And I wonder what am I doing here
And I wonder what am I doing here
After so long nobody's wrong
After so long nobody's right
After so long nobody's wrong
After so long nobody's right
On this useless night
With you so far away
I stand in front of this Ferris wheel
And I wonder what am I doing here
And I wonder what am I doing here
And I wonder what am I doing here
The lyrics to Blue Rodeo's song Fuse convey a sense of loneliness and unease, as the singer finds himself standing alone in front of a Ferris wheel on a useless night while his loved one is far away. The presence of drunks who stumble by and mumble their abuse only heightens his sense of isolation and confusion. The repetition of the line "And I wonder what am I doing here" underscores the sense of aimlessness and lack of direction that the singer is feeling.

On this useless night
Tonight feels like it has no purpose
With you so far away
You are not physically present with me
I stand in front of this Ferris wheel
I am standing in front of a Ferris wheel at a fair
And I wonder what am I doing here
I am questioning why I am at this fair, on this night, without you
And all the drunks just stumble by
Intoxicated people are walking past me
And mumble their abuse
They are muttering unpleasant words
Tell me what is the use
I am asking myself, and possibly the universe, what the point of this all is
After so long nobody's wrong
It seems that, after a long time has passed, no one is right or wrong
After so long nobody's right
It feels as though nobody has the correct answer or solution
On this useless night
The night continues to feel pointless
With you so far away
Again, I am missing your physical presence
I stand in front of this Ferris wheel
I remain standing in front of the Ferris wheel
And I wonder what am I doing here
Once more, I question why I am here without you
