Lost Together
Blue Rodeo Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
That dance around your head
In your eyes I see that perfect world
I hope that doesn't sound too weird
And I want all the world to know
That your love's all I need
All that I need
And if we're lost
Then we are lost together
Yeah, if we're lost
We are lost together
Stand before this faceless crowd
I wonder why I bother
So much controlled by so few
Stumbling from one disaster to another
I've heard it all so many times before
It's all a dream to me now, a dream to me now
And if we're lost
Then we are lost together
Yeah, if we're lost
We are lost together
In the silence of this whispered night
I listen only to your breath
And in that second of a shooting star
Somehow it all makes sense
And I want all the world to know
That your love's all I need
All that I need
And if we're lost
Then we are lost together
Yeah, if we're lost
We are lost together
And if we're lost
Then we are lost together
Yeah, if we're lost
Then we are lost together
Together, together
The lyrics to Blue Rodeo's song "Lost Together" are poignant and evocative. They touch upon the complexities and beauty of love, and the concept of being lost โ both figuratively and literally โ and finding comfort in being in it together.
The opening lines describe the stars in the sky, which are both "strange and beautiful" as they "dance around" the listener's head. The singer implies that they are deeply in love with the person they are singing to, as they see a "perfect world" in their eyes. The singer breaks the fourth wall to address the wider audience, declaring that their love is all they need, and that they want the world to know it. Despite any obstacles or challenges they may face, the singer emphasizes that they are "lost together," creating a sense of unity and solidarity.
The second verse is a darker reflection on the challenges of life, as the singer sings about standing before a "faceless crowd" and feeling as though they are "stumbling from one disaster to another." They have become jaded by the mundane and repetitive nature of life, hearing the same things over and over again. However, despite their weariness and disillusionment, they find solace in their partner's love. The third verse returns to the image of the stars, as the singer listens to their partner's breath in the silence of night. They describe a moment of clarity and understanding, as a shooting star brings meaning to their existence. The song ends on a powerful note, as the singer once again declares that, no matter what happens, they are "lost together."
Overall, the lyrics to "Lost Together" are a moving tribute to the power of love, and the sense of comfort and unity that comes with being together in life's trials and tribulations.
