Never Look Back
Blue Rodeo Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Then you laugh
And now your doin' everything that you can
To try to win my love back
You made promises
You never kept
And yes I followed you to the end
Never looked back
Never looked back
Yes I followed you to the end
And I never looked back
You were everything
So complete
And yes I learned how to turn every trick
On the end of that leash
Oh ho baby
I wanted you so bad
And yes I followed you to the end
And I never looked back
Never looked back
Never looked back
Yes I followed you to the end
And I never looked back
You were everything
So complete
And yes I learned how to turn every trick
On the end of that leash
Oh ho baby
I wanted you so bad
Yes I followed you to the end
And I never looked back
Never looked back
Never looked back
Yes I followed you to the end
And I never looked back
Never looked back
Never looked back
Yes I followed you to the end
Followed you to the end
Yes I followed you to the end
And I never looked back
Yes I followed you to the end
And I never looked back
You deceive me
Then you laugh
And now your doin' everything that you can
The lyrics to Blue Rodeo's song "Never Look Back" speak to a tumultuous relationship that ended badly. The singer has been misled by their partner, who they followed blindly, and even after being hurt and let down, the partner now tries to win the singer's love back. Despite everything, the singer never looked back and was committed to the relationship until the end. The song is filled with a sense of conflicted emotion, with the singer admitting that they wanted their partner so badly but also acknowledging the manipulation and broken promises. The line "And yes I learned how to turn every trick on the end of that leash" is particularly striking, symbolizing the control that a manipulative partner can have in a relationship, reducing the other person to a mere pawn in their game.
Overall, the song is a powerful commentary on the complexities of love and relationships, and how we can be blinded by our desire for someone, even in the face of hurtful behavior. It speaks to the idea that we can be deeply invested in a relationship and still be mistreated, and that it takes strength to walk away from that kind of toxicity. The repeated refrain of "never looked back" emphasizes this idea of moving forward and leaving the past behind, even in the midst of heartache.
