New Morning Sun
Blue Rodeo Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
We'll share all the darkness in our souls
Don't you tell me lies
I could always see the truth in your eyes
Please don't lead me on
Better just to crush me now and be gone
Way down here under the red lights
Somedays seemed too much
I would always bend right under your touch
Morning comes again
I've already move way past all the pain
Gotta rise up
Rise up and take the sky like a new morning sun
If we walk away
Then we walk away never knowing what we could have done
Maybe you're right
We lose sometime
Stand around to see what's fine
Or what will come
That's the risk that we run
Run
Now we can hear everyone talking
Well our world's getting smaller everyday
All our games are played
We gotta live with the mess that we made
Don't you walk away
I can hear every word that you say
Gotta rise up
Rise up and take the sky like a new morning sun
If we walk away
Then we walk away never knowing what we could have done
Maybe your right
we lose some time
Wait around to see what's fine
or what will come
That's the risk that we run
Gotta rise up
Rise up and take the sky like a new morning sun
If we walk away
Then we walk away never knowing what we could have done
Rise up
Rise up and take the sky like a new morning sun
If we walk away
Then we walk away never knowing what we could have done
The lyrics of Blue Rodeo's "New Morning Sun" express a longing for a deeper connection and a willingness to take risks despite the danger of getting hurt. The song opens with the suggestion that two people who have shared their darkest secrets could potentially become lovers. However, there is a warning not to deceive one another because the truth always reveals itself in the eyes. The singer knows that the relationship may not end well, but instead of leading them on, it's better to crush any hope of a relationship immediately.
The second verse describes the couple carving their futures on the wall under the red lights, a setting that suggests intimacy and secrecy. However, sometimes the singer struggled to cope with the emotions of the relationship and would always give in to the other person's touch. But eventually, the morning comes, and the pain is left behind.
The chorus declares that it's essential to seize opportunities such as love and not walk away without trying. The risk of losing some time and not knowing what could have been is too great. The verses continue the theme of the importance of living in the moment, not minding what others have to say, and living with the consequences of the choices made.
Overall, "New Morning Sun" is a song about taking risks, living in the present, and not walking away from an opportunity. It's a reminder that some risks must be taken for people to connect beyond surface-level conversations and what they may seem.
