Blue Rodeo Lyrics

Painted skies and graceful romances
I see a world that's tired and scared
Of living on the edge too long
Where does she get off telling me
That love could save us all, save us all.
She takes my hand and leads me to nowhere town.No matter where I stand it's always neutral ground,
And in the cool of the evening blue
I feel so tired and alone
Where does she get off telling me
That love could save us all, save us all.
And it's day after day
I keep hanging around can you tell me why
Night after night, yeah I know I should leave
But there's something in those eyes
That keeps me hanging on, I'm hypnotized
It breaks my heart and I don't know why
Tell me why, tell me why
She sees the world through rose-coloured glasses
Painted skies and graceful romances
I see a world that's tired and scared
Of living on the edge too long
Where does she get off telling me
That love could save us all, save us all
And it's day after day
I keep hanging around, can you tell me why
Night after night, yeah I know I should leave
But there's something, yeah, yeah
Day after day after day after day
And I don't know
Day after day after day after day
And I don't know why.
In “Rose-Coloured Glasses”, Blue Rodeo creates a contrast between two seemingly opposite perspectives on life, one tinted with optimism and the other with pessimism. The song describes the viewpoint of the singer and their lover, who see the world through a different lens. The lover wears rose-coloured glasses and sees the world full of romance and beauty, while the singer is more cynical and detached. They see a world that is tired and scared of living on the edge for too long. Even though the lover's perspective is almost unrealistic, the singer cannot let go because of their hypnotic power. The song explores the tension between the two perspectives, prompting the listener to question their own outlook.
The lyrics paint a bleak picture of the singer's life. They are stuck in a place where nothing happens, and they do not see any hope for change. The lover offers a different perspective, preaching about the importance of love and its ability to save everyone. It seems that the singer is torn between the reality he perceives and the attractive romanticism that his lover portrays. As much as the singer tries to distance himself from their lover's view, he cannot help but feel mesmerized by their optimism. This internal conflict is the driving force of the song.
