Summer Girls
Blue Rodeo Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Get so golden in the sun
That they could block out any other thought
Dry your eyes and turn away
'Cause there's nothing we can say
'Cause we were never meant to talk a lot
And no I can't do this anymore
Better to be sad right now
Than later send my whole world reeling
I want something more
Than to watch you walking out my summer door
Hearts so hard to understand
Sinking slowly in the sand
They make you do the things you'd never do
Feel your mouth get desert dry
And you start to wonder why
You feel a chill when she stands next to you
And no I can't do this anymore
No I've lost the reason
Better to just hang my head
And wait here for another season
I want you to stay
After all the summer girls have gone away
There's no time left to wonder anymore
I got memories to last the whole year long
Just like the sun leaves you staring at the sky
After it's gone
Summer girls they sure are fun
Get so golden in the sun
That you could barely stand to look at them
And no I can't do this anymore
No I've lost the feeling
Better to be sad right now
Than later send my whole world reeling
I want you to stay
After all the summer girls have gone away
I need to know
That you will still be here after the others go
I need the one
Who will walk with me in fall when summer's gone
When summerβs gone
Blue Rodeo's "Summer Girls" tells a story about a fleeting summer romance. The song speaks about the carefree attitude that accompanies summer, and how the season can make someone do things they would never do otherwise. The lyrics of the song describe a man who falls in love with a girl during summer. While he knows that the relationship will not last, he can't help but feel attached to her. The chorus describes the singerβs desire to find someone who will stay with him even after the summer has ended, as he tries to come to terms with the fact that his love interest will soon be leaving.
The opening stanza of the song describes how the sun has a way of making the girl so shiny that she "could block out any other thoughtβ. The singer confesses that he has fallen for her and that he canβt do it anymore. He's afraid of becoming too attached, and he's not ready to handle the sadness that comes when summer ends. The second verse describes how hearts can be hard to understand, and the effect they can have on people. The singer knows that the girl's departure will hit him hard, and he tries to prepare himself for the inevitable heartache.
The chorus talks about the singer's desire to find something more meaningful, to be with someone who will stay with him even after the other summer girls have gone away. The closing verse compares the singer's love for the summer girl to the way the sun leaves you staring up at the sky long after it has gone.

Like a lost dream ! we all have experienced this pain of love lost and gone from us ! this song speaks of heart broken souls !
"Girl Of Mine"
Girl of mine
Where did we go wrong
Oh you never once said you loved me
And you never once called my name
And now I
I can see the way
My memories like cigarettes
Blow smoke upon the screen
I stare up to the empty face
That hangs inside my dreams
In the words of love I hesitate
They all come rushing in to me
Too late too late
Days and nights
Wondering what could it be
Did you need somebody stronger
Someone to see you through
Oh girl I never knew
Now your lipstick and your powder
They're all put away in drawers
But the traces of our love affair
Still hide behind the doors
I lie awake afraid to sleep
Cause I see the face I knew I'd never keep
I'd never keep
Too much to bear
Too much I fall down drunk
Too much I care
Tell me now
Do the words of love still seem the
Same to you
Now we learned the angry lessons
And we still came back for more
Forget somehow what came before
My senses have been shocked
And I'm alive to every pain
Your quiet laughter comes to me
It echoes in the rain
In the darkness of my lonely room
I pray that you won't fade
Away too soon
Too soon
It's too much to bear
It's too much I fall down drunk
Too much I care
Oh...

This by far the best song ever written. The lyrics alone say that they know what its like to truely hurt. Not something mearly written. Beautiful when it first came out, and still beautiful all these years later.
