Blue Rodeo Lyrics

And I'll sing my blues
And you'll sing yours too
Cause no one's giving in
No one's even listening
To tired old words
But we sure know how to hurt each other
Each other
We'll sharpen our knives
And aim for the heart
I know all my lines
And you know your part
But then after all the tears
You fall asleep in my arms
And then I realize this is all that I want together
Together
I know we're a mess
Just like all the rest
So let's just be
And with time we'll see
If itโs written in the stars up above
Like everything you want but canโt get enough of
If I can mend this golden thread
That keeps us joined
Together
The song "Together" by Blue Rodeo is an emotional depiction of a turbulent relationship. The song starts with the couple fighting and arguing all night, with no one giving in or even listening to each other. They both sing their own blues - the pain and frustration of being in a relationship that is falling apart. The couple knows how to hurt each other with their words and actions. Yet, the song takes a turn for the better when the couple has a moment of vulnerability. They put away their verbal weapons and sharpen their knives to aim for each other's heart, but then they realize that they don't want to hurt each other anymore. After all the tears, the couple falls asleep in each other's arms. This is when the singer realizes that all he wants is to be together, despite the turmoil that comes with their relationship.
The song uses a metaphor of a "golden thread" that keeps them joined, which means that they have invested a lot of time and energy into their relationship, and they don't want to give up on it without making it work. The lyrics suggest that although the couple is a mess, they are not so different from other couples who struggle in relationships. The songwriter conveys that although things might seem hopeless, they can still work it out if they try, and time will tell if their love is written in the stars above.

In the process, I will express my feelings of sadness through music
And you'll sing yours too
Your emotions will be shared through singing as well
Cause no one's giving in
Nobody is willing to give up or compromise in the conflict
No one's even listening
Neither of us is paying attention to what the other person is saying
To tired old words

But we sure know how to hurt each other
Despite being tired of arguing, we know exactly how to inflict emotional pain on each other
Each other
We are the only people involved in this argument
We'll sharpen our knives
We will continue to verbally attack each other, as if we are sharpening knives for battle

I know all my lines
I'm familiar with the arguments that will hurt you the most
And you know your part

You fall asleep in my arms
Eventually, we comfort each other and find solace in one another
And then I realize this is all that I want together
In these peaceful moments, I understand that this relationship is worth all the hurt and conflict
I know we're a mess
We both acknowledge that our relationship has its flaws
Just like all the rest
Our relationship struggles are not unique, but common among many couples
So let's just be
We should stop trying to change each other and just be ourselves
And with time we'll see
In time, we will understand our relationship better
If itโs written in the stars up above
It is possible that our relationship has already been fated by destiny
Like everything you want but canโt get enough of
Our relationship may be something we can't get enough of, despite its flaws
If I can mend this golden thread
If I can fix the underlying issues in our relationship
That keeps us joined
Which is what currently holds our relationship together
Together
We must work together to mend our relationship and move forward from our current struggles

I spent 6 years in UK. Corner Gas had that effect on me. But Canada ain't what it used to be. We're lagging behind so many countries.
