Groves used the name from November 2008, writing in her MySpace blog "As I've been recording and working on new things throughout the year I feel like I'm in a different place musically to when I started out, so it seemed appropriate to become something new".

The first verse of the song describes the feeling of lying in bed and trying to fall asleep. The silence of the air and the settling of light through cracks in the window are highlighted, setting a serene scene for the listener. The singer's eyes are directed upward, questioning whether aspirations are conceived beyond the limits of our everyday realm. This unsureness is carried into the second verse, where the singer mentions being burdened with questions and attempting to hold the sun in the sky with bare hands. However, it is the singing of birds at night that restores the singer's faith in life, though it is a temporary feeling.
The bridge of the song has the singer making a promise of writing a love song to someone close to them. The final verse is where the singer sounds almost regretful, urging someone not to leave them and promising to no longer desire unreachable things such as stars which are too far away. This song, in general, uses metaphors and similes to capture the thoughts and feelings associated with the inability to sleep, the longing for meaningful connections, and the feeling of uncertainty in one's life.
