Never My Love
Blue Swede Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You ask me if there'll come a time
When I grow tired of you
Never my love
Never my love

You wonder if this heart of mine
Will lose its desire for you
Never my love
Never my love

What makes you think love will end
When you know that my whole life depends
On you (on you)

Never my love
Never my love

You say you fear I'll change my mind
And I won't require you
Never my love
Never my love

How can you think love will end

When I've asked you to spend your whole life
With me (with me, with me)

Overall Meaning

The song "Never My Love" by Blue Swede is a classic love ballad that assures a loved one that the love shared between them will never dwindle away. The song speaks of the concerns and fears of being in a relationship, where one partner asks the other if they will eventually tire or lose their affection for them. The first two lines of the song establish the question being asked, and the response is, "Never my love, never my love." In the next verse, the other partner wonders if the love shared between them will disappear or fade away. The reassurance, "Never my love, never my love," is given once again.

The chorus speaks of the first person's dependence and reliance on their partner, and the love shared between them isn't just a feeling but a necessity for their well-being. The second person expresses their fears of being left alone, to which the first person responds that their love is constant, and they see a future together.

The overall theme of the song is love that endures, although sometimes there may be doubts and fears. The lyrics reinforce that true love means promising to love and be with someone forever. The song is a sentimental representation of the love shared between two people.

This was released in 1974 and played on London's Capital Radio by the late and very great Roger Scott on his drive-time show. Thanks for posting - records like this are hard to find - great version !

@wmbrown6 Strange that many worthy songs do not make the charts. This one is not everyones cup of tea of course - we all have different tastes thankfully or else the world would be boring. The original Capital Radio in the 70s played many pop songs which were not played by Radio 1 at the time, but were either not hits or minor hits, but certainly great songs. Just a few for example ...Shoes by Reparata / I go to pieces by Cotton Lloyd and Christian / See them on the run by Scorched Earth (actually Billy Ocean) / Be not too hard by Manfred manns earthbound / Isn't it time by The Babys / Just don''t wanna be lonely by The Main Ingredient / Wishing you were here by Chicago / Dark lady by Cher / Overnight sensation by The Raspberries / Jenny Jenny dreams are ten a penny by The First Class / Abraham Martin and John by Dion / Central Park Arrest by Thunderthighs / It''s a game by String driven thing / Traffic Jam by Sailor .....there were loads ..... and then there were songs that for reasons unfathomable, made the top of the charts such as Seven Tears by The Goombay dance band / One day at a time by Lena Martell. That's how the cookie crumbles.
