Sitting Pretty

But eyes will always lie
Use your blindfold as a shield
In case they see you cry
But tears will only wash away
The doubts you left behind
The only one that matters now
Is sitting in your mind
Sitting pretty
Sitting pretty
Sitting pretty
Sitting pretty
In the armchair of your mind
Cracks appearing in the wall
Are giving way to light
But he will always tell you
That there is no need to fight
That he can show you all the ways
To get your hearts desire
Black may be the consequence
But bright will burn your fire
Big is getting bigger
And more is getting more
These are the feelings
That you've never had before
And as your belly grows and grows
With all that you can take
He knows he has a hold on you
That you can never break
The lyrics of "Sitting Pretty" by Bluehorses explore the theme of deceit and the struggle to find inner strength and independence. The first verse reminds us that our actions and words can often hide our true emotions and thoughts, but our eyes will always reveal the truth. The use of a blindfold as a shield suggests that the persona is trying to hide their vulnerability and emotional pain. However, the emotional release of crying can help ease doubts and fears. The last line of the stanza emphasizes the importance of one's own perspective of oneself, and the way we perceive ourselves matters the most.
The chorus, "Sitting pretty in the armchair of your mind," suggests that despite the outer struggles and battles, one's mental state is what determines their overall well-being. The use of the phrase "sitting pretty" implies a superficial beauty, but in this case, it refers to the persona's attempts to maintain a calm exterior despite their inner turmoil. The "armchair of your mind" symbolizes the comfort and safety found within our own thoughts and minds.
The second verse recounts the persona's experience being manipulated by someone who promises to fulfill their desires but has a hidden agenda. The "cracks appearing in the wall" suggest that the persona is beginning to see the truth and becomes more aware of their own power. However, the manipulator continues to convince them to ignore their own instincts and follow their lead. The "bright will burn your fire" implies that following one's own path can lead to great things, but it may come at a cost.
Overall, "Sitting Pretty" is a song that encourages listeners to embrace their vulnerability and listen to their inner voice. The chorus emphasizes the importance of maintaining a strong inner foundation to face external challenges. The verses explore the struggles of being manipulated by others and the journey towards finding independence.
