Steering away from structured songwriting, Blueneck’s music has developed into a cinematic soundscape of ambient atmospherics, dark skeletal rhythms and swirling crescendos, all created with analogue synths, sparse piano and huge, soaring guitars. Having already produced a series of demos, each one evolving further into atmospheric territory than the last, the band have teamed up with producer and musical visionary Corin Dingley for their first full-length album “Scars Of The Midwest”.
Blueneck operate in a similar post-rock territory to bands such as Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Sigur Rós, Mogwai and Kwoon, but having spent a year and a half locked away recording in the hills of deepest Somerset, they have delivered a dark, dynamic masterpiece which has a sound truly their own.

Ghosts
Blueneck Lyrics

Should've left them alone
Could've cleansed my soul
Nothing you say could
Make it feel that I'm in control
Now
Digging up the past
Didn't think to ask
Made it feel like I lost control
Take a look at yourself
It's neat enough
Just get hurting yourself
This is not love
Could reputation be enough
The conversations breaking us
And we never back down and ask for help
As the memory fade someone else
So whatever you say don't stop me now
I've been telling myself it's over now
Liеs
That keep ruining lives
I can honestly say
That I won't back down now
It's the fеar that's breaking me down
Talk
To somebody else
Couldn't stop yourself
From anticipating
Rotten feeling
Does that make me small
Take a look at yourself
It's neat enough
Just get hurting yourself
This is not love
Could reputation be enough
The conversations breaking us
And we never back down and ask for help
As the memory fade someone else
So whatever you say
Don't stop me now
I've been telling myself it's over now
Take a look at yourself
It's neat enough
Just get hurting yourself
This is not love
Could reputation be enough
The conversations breaking us
And we never back down and ask for help
As the memory fade someone else
So whatever you say
Don't stop me now
I've been telling myself it's over now
In "Ghosts," Blueneck seems to be addressing a past relationship or experience that still haunts them. The opening lyrics suggest that they regret revisiting something that they should have left alone and that they should have cleansed their soul instead. They then address the feeling of not being in control and the fear that comes with it. The chorus seems to be a call to action, urging the listener to take a look at themselves and recognize their behavior that may be causing harm. The song ends with a statement that they have been telling themselves it's over now, perhaps indicating that they have finally come to terms with the past.
The verses include a lot of imagery related to digging up the past, making it feel like they've lost control, and being broken down by fear. These lyrics show a deep emotional struggle, and the reference to ghosts indicates that these memories or experiences are still with them, haunting them.
The chorus repeats the same lines, suggesting that the song is meant to be a strong message or mantra for the listener. It highlights the importance of recognizing harmful behavior and reaching out for help, rather than attempting to tough it out alone. The lines "This is not love / Could reputation be enough" suggest that sometimes people stay in damaging situations for the sake of appearances, rather than addressing the root of the issue.
Overall, "Ghosts" is a powerful reminder to take care of oneself emotionally and to not let the past control the present or future.

Throughout the entire song, the singer grapples with the ghosts of their past and the damage it has done to themselves and relationships. They question whether their own reputation is reason enough to continue holding onto the ghosts or if it's time to move on.
