Blues Traveler Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning | Line by Line Meaning
Gonna ride you out like a witch on a broom
I'm gonna ride you
Gonna ride you out like a witch on a broom
It's the old give and take
And I've been took again
So give me room
I'm gonna watch you
Gonna watch you fall like a tower of cards
I'm gonna watch you
Gonna watch you fall like a tower of cards
Gonna land gonna land gonna land gonna land
No matter how hard
Crash
Burn
When will I learn
Crash
Burn
When will I learn
Crash
Burn
When will I learn
Crash
Burn
When will I learn
The lyrics to Blues Traveler's "Crash Burn" describe a relationship that is on the brink of collapse. The narrator is tired of being taken advantage of and decides to take control by riding out their partner like a witch on a broom. They want to watch their partner fall like a tower of cards, but they know that the cycle of the relationship is the old give and take. The narrator has been taken advantage of before and is unsure if they will fall victim to it again, hence the refrain of "crash burn, when will I learn?"
The lyrics paint a picture of a dysfunctional relationship where one partner has power over the other. The narrator wants to exert control over their partner, but they are aware that the relationship is unstable and can come crashing down at any moment. The use of metaphorical language, such as the witch on a broom, tower of cards, and crash burn, creates a sense of impending doom and underscores the fragility of the relationship.

While Blues Traveler is best known among fans for their improvisational live shows, the general public is most familiar with the group from their Top 40 singles "Run-Around" and "Hook". They gained mainstream popularity after their fourth studio album four, released in 1994. Sheehan's death and Popper's struggle with obesity put a damper on the group's success, and A&M dropped the band in 2002.

The song title says it all. Good Lord, everyone is cooking but Popper is simply on a higher level than any other harmonica player I've ever heard, a true virtuoso artist. F***ing unreal.

saw these guys back in the later 90s live before I had a different perspective on them. I won't lie I didn't think they was worth getting too excited about at the time but liked em ok enough to pile in and go. This band does or did not back then get the credit they prob deserved for their performances really. There was a point where I don't think they stopped for like 45 minutes straight at least even to change songs / they just went from one to the next smoothly and effeciently without you noticing really until it had already began it's hook per say lol. I was very impressed at that point. when i hear em sometimes on the radio and don't see as much fanfair for them as I do say some of the overblown hair bands of the 80s and early 90s I always feel the need to throw that in. These players could flat out jam. Their bass player should of been a household name / i play some bass and let me tell ya the harmonica which I don't consider myself good at necessarily is easier to play than this bass by far. They all good and I do love the harp but this bass player is a bad man. When I saw them play at that point is when I wanted to learn to play bass no doubt.
