Currently, the group comprises singer and harmonica player John Popper, guitarist Chan Kinchla, drummer Brendan Hill, bassist Tad Kinchla and keyboardist Ben Wilson. Tad Kinchla and Ben Wilson joined the band following the death of original bassist Bobby Sheehan in 1999.
While Blues Traveler is best known among fans for their improvisational live shows, the general public is most familiar with the group from their Top 40 singles "Run-Around" and "Hook". They gained mainstream popularity after their fourth studio album four, released in 1994. Sheehan's death and Popper's struggle with obesity put a damper on the group's success, and A&M dropped the band in 2002.
Gina
Blues Traveler Lyrics

Don't you cry
Gina, Gina
Wonder why, I said wonder why
Gina, Gina
Dance all night
Gina, Gina
Gina, Gina
Can't you see
Gina, Gina
You're just free, I said you're just free
Well once upon a time
A long time ago
There was a rock 'n' roll queen
We came to know
She kept on dancing
She'd dance till dawn
She'd dance till the people and the liquor were gone
She kept on dancing as the crowd grew large
When it came to grooving, you know, she was in charge
She still finds ways today to groove somehow
In fact she could be listening to this music right now
Gina, Gina
Don't you cry
Gina, Gina
Wonder why, I said wonder why
The song "Gina" by Blues Traveler is a tribute to a woman who was a rock 'n' roll queen, always dancing and enjoying life to the fullest. Her spirit of freedom is celebrated in this upbeat song, where the singer encourages her not to cry and wonder why. The lyrics express admiration for Gina's ability to feel all right and be just free, even in the face of life's challenges.
The first verse of the song sets the tone with a repeated chorus of "Gina, Gina" and Don't you cry" emphasizing that whatever the issue is, it can be overcome. The second verse offers a backstory about Gina that explains why she is held in such high regard. The chorus repeats several times with the lyrics reminding Gina that she is just free and should not worry about anything.
