I'm Walkin'
Blues Traveler Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm walkin', yes indeed, and I'm talkin' 'bout you and me
I'm hopin' that you'll come back to me (yes)
I'm lonely as I can be, I'm waitin' for your company
I'm hopin' that you'll come back to me
What 'ya gonna do when the well runs dry?
You're gonna run away and hide
I'm gonna run right by your side, for you pretty baby I'll even die
I'm walkin', yes indeed, I'm talkin' 'bout you and me
I'm hopin' that you'll come back to me

I'm walkin', yes indeed, and I'm talkin' 'bout you and me
I'm hopin' that you'll come back to me (yes)
I'm lonely as I can be, I'm waitin' for your company
I'm hopin' that you'll come back to me
What 'ya gonna do when the well runs dry?
You're gonna sit right down and cry
What 'ya gonna do when I say "bye-bye"?

All you're gonna do is dry your eye
I'm walkin', yes indeed, I'm talkin' 'bout you and me

Overall Meaning

The song "I'm Walkin'" by Blues Traveler is a love song that talks about separation, loneliness, and the desire for love to return. The lyrics start with the singer expressing hope for his lover to come back to him. He then talks about his loneliness and his expectation of having the company of his lover. The chorus repeats the same line twice, which emphasizes his desire for his lover to return. He then asks what his lover is going to do when the well runs dry, which might be a metaphor for their love running out. The singer then says that he is going to run by his lover's side, even if it means dying for her.

The singer expresses his desire for his lover to come back to him, which suggests that he is still in love with her. He is lonely and wants the company of his lover to fill the void in his life. The lines "What 'ya gonna do when the well runs dry? You're gonna run away and hide" suggest that his lover might leave him when their love runs out. The line "for you pretty baby I'll even die" shows the intensity of the singer's love and how much he is willing to sacrifice for his lover.

I remember when my dad used to play this for me, just the main strumming pattern, and sing the abc's song to me in time with the melody. When he showed me the actual song, I was blown away and loved it as a kid, and now I'm 19, trying to learn this on the guitar for him to surprise him soon. I love you dad ❤

John Popper was a student of mine at Princeton High School, and his music was already cooking then! I'm glad his band has been so successful! Patricia Thomas

Did you teach him anything about music? I assume yes, because a high schooler can't know it all, so...do you hear any of what he learned in your class in his music? That would be awesome.
