Currently, the group comprises singer and harmonica player John Popper, guitarist Chan Kinchla, drummer Brendan Hill, bassist Tad Kinchla and keyboardist Ben Wilson. Tad Kinchla and Ben Wilson joined the band following the death of original bassist Bobby Sheehan in 1999.
While Blues Traveler is best known among fans for their improvisational live shows, the general public is most familiar with the group from their Top 40 singles "Run-Around" and "Hook". They gained mainstream popularity after their fourth studio album four, released in 1994. Sheehan's death and Popper's struggle with obesity put a damper on the group's success, and A&M dropped the band in 2002.

Stand and walk
Tragedy
Is cheap and so is talk
Decision
Yours to make what will you do
In the end
It comes back to you
Cause it's a long, way to fall
Thunder
Don't scare me at all
Lightning
Well just a little
Pressure
It ain't worth a dime
And your wounds
They'll all heal in time
Cause it's a long, way to fall
The answers are getting harder
The answers are getting harder
The answers are getting harder
(If an answer comes to those who pray)
The answers are getting harder
(If an answer comes to those who pray)
The answers are getting harder
(If an answer comes to those who pray)
The answers are getting harder and harder
And there ain't no way to bargain or to barter
But if you've got the angst or the ardor
You might faint from the fight but you're gonna find it
For every challenge could have paradise behind it
And if you accept what you have lost and you stand tall
You might just get it back and you can get it all
So now you know why it's a long way to fall
Yeah cause it's a long way to fall
Cause it's a long, way to fall
Stand
Stand and walk
Stand
The lyrics of "Stand" by Blues Traveler convey a message of resilience and determination, reminding listeners to keep standing strong even when things get tough. The opening lines urge the listener to "stand and walk," and the subsequent lyrics make reference to tragedy, cheap talk, and decision-making: all of which can weigh heavily on a person's mind. Ultimately, the song emphasizes the idea that in the end, the choices we make will come back to us.
The second verse introduces the metaphor of a thunderstorm, suggesting that even though the rumble of thunder might be intimidating, it's not worth being afraid of. Similarly, the pressure we face in life is "not worth a dime," and our wounds will eventually heal. The chorus repeats the refrain that it's a long way to fall, serving as a reminder to stay strong and keep pushing through even in difficult times.
The third verse suggests that the challenges we face in life can feel insurmountable, and the answers to our struggles may seem increasingly elusive. However, the lyrics encourage the listener to keep pushing forward, as there may be a brighter future waiting on the other side of difficult times. In the end, the song offers a message of hope and resilience, reminding us that we have the power to make choices that will shape our lives.
