Curse
Blunt Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I take the left foot of a dead crow
mix it with some alligator blood
and some mistletoe
I take a bottle of rum
and some rays from the sun
and some voices that come from beyond

And I put a curse on everybody here
that you be a slave to the reggae
I put a curse on everybody here
that you be a slave to the reggae

Can you feel the heat sizzling in your blood
when I'm casting spells with my black magic rod
just like a snake you try to change your hide
when you hear the sound of my voodoo jive
and you feel your feet move without control
and you feel the devils taking over your soul
so let the madness begin
your bones dance out through your skin
and give in to the reggae sin

And I put a curse on everybody here
that you be a slave to the reggae
I put a curse on everybody here
that you be a slave to the reggae

And you know that you're in it
when you can't distinguish between night and day
And you feel the music come to life
and see the spirits come out to play

The dead rise from their graves
and start to dance in the moonlight
even after death you're still a slave
everybody feel alright

You can feel the weight of the mountain high
You can feel the wind when the eagles fly
You can feel the pain when the children cry
but only in the music will you feel alive

And I put a curse on everybody here
that you be a slave to the reggae
And I put a curse on everybody here
that you be a slave to the reggae

Slave to the music

Slave to the reggae
Slave to the rhythm that flows in your blood

Overall Meaning

Blunt's song "Curse" is a unique and intriguing composition that incorporates elements such as mysticism, voodooism, and reggae music. The lyrics describe a ritualistic process of creating a curse using unusual ingredients such as the left foot of a dead crow, alligator blood, mistletoe, and rum, along with chanting voices from beyond. The singer casts an enchantment "with his black magic rod" that controls the listener's body, making them dance uncontrollably to the reggae rhythm, as if in the grip of a sinister spell. The song appeals to the idea of music as a powerful force that can exert control over the listener's actions and emotions, offering an escape to a magical world dominated by reggae music. The lyrics describe the music as a curse, which is simultaneously liberating and enslaving, and an escape from the harshness of mundane existence.

The lyrics of "Curse" provide a window into the complex and enigmatic world of mystical traditions and beliefs. They invoke the concept of folk magic and the use of spells and curses as a way of influencing reality. The song suggests that reggae music possesses the power to create a hypnotic trance-like state in listeners, where the rhythm can take hold of the body and soul of the listener, making them a slave to the music. It is interesting to note that "Curse" is not a typical reggae song, as it incorporates a range of elements and sounds from a variety of musical genres such as blues, rock, and folk, along with Jamaican rhythms. This makes the song a unique and singular artistic expression of the power of music in a mystical and magical sense.

There is a lot of interesting takes and opinion on the post I'm not being able to share, even if I link or I type the title.

In the end my Striker is sitting at 1472.50 with:
Grudge3
Ambush3
MassInc3
RaidCpt3
Adrenaline2
Flurry1

Stats (counting passive bonuses)
Crit 550
Spec 350
Swift 1340

I'm having quite the fun and the success!

MassIncrease is a very underrated engraving imho, and kinda mandatory on this class (Flurry only obviously).
The negative atkspeed debuff is quite removed from the equation from your high swift and your self buffs with LightWhisper and SkyShatteringBlow. Not even counting the Yearning support set buff that remove it kinda by itself.
Don't forget also that Mass is +18% dmg increase instead of the common +16 from most other dmg engravings.

I dropped CursedDoll for Raid captain because Doll doesn't scale perfectly with Mass.
And Raid as well is +18% instead of 16.
Not counting the negative healing thing, but whatever about that.

You could argue that RaidCpt is not always maxed out (remember it's 140% bonus mvn speed).
With the Swiftness I mentioned, i have around 23ish% mvn speed. +3% with Vernese Vine food from Peyto bartender you should always consume.
So you are at 26ish%, far away from the 140.
Yearning set comes in once again, bringing you 34ish%. With 3.50% from feast buff, you are basically at 140%.

Anyway all of this is basically not important because you always throw SkyShatteringBlow before your rotation, and the self mvn speed buff from this is already enough to go over 140% (lvl5 tripod needed tho, also handy for the duration).
People could argue that having your counter always on cooldown (cause you want to spam this for the buff) could be a thing, but I don't agree.

Hope this gives you a different point of view!
For me was a very fun theorycrafting moment.

Only thing i can complaing about is a little low Crirate, sitting around 74ish% while in Back and under LightWhisper.
This is without LostWindCliff, I always put this out from my builds calculation cause sooner or later he's going aways. I'm at 15 LoS for example, and I'm not lucky).

I have pretty similair stuff, I done multiple tests with:
3x grudge/Ambush/Deathblow/Adrenaline/Cursed doll
vs
3x Grudge/Ambush/Deathblow/Adrenaline/KBW

and in trixion I come out with 6.1mil on the first and 6.4mil on the second and its not like I done couple of runs, but more like 50 each.
And in every run KBW outperforms cursed doll. + you dont have the healing negative which helps out a bit as well if you are not experience with new mechs.

While ye this can be a different story when you drop the card set, but when will this happen? in 6months at best if you are lucky and farming cards.
By the time you drop the card set, you will need to change your gear anyway. So, In my honest opinion KBW is still superior in our stage of the game.

Later on in the future this might change, but for now I am sticking with KBW

Questionable Name

4:53 This is a very good point. It is not always good to trade a big chunk of survivability for a small % of damage.

Ideeem

It's not complicated, if you go from 255 to 305 dmg it's less of a jump than going from 200 to 250. That being said, I didn't choose my 7/7 stone, the stone chose me : it dropped and it got cut 7/7. If that saves me 200 pheons, I'll gladly turn a blind eye.

dang

it call work on what you have man. stone cutting is crazy expensive, it a pheon burner if you keep have to buy your stones and fail too many time.

Kanima

And that's totally fine.. Its not like using this is a negative, just not the best damage gain option but could still be 2nd best.

Nicolas Mazray

i did like running keen blunt instead of barricade as Red gunlancer because i found it easier and cheaper to build. But after looking at your video i wonder if i should change 3/4 of my item to remove keen blunt for barricade in my 5 by 3

atm i got: grudge lone knight (legendary) , super charge master brawl keenblunt

Semper Lucere

hey, for cursed doll, can u talk more about it and the side buffs ? Like did the pally buff boost other party members cursed doll ? Or only self buff/boss buff can buff our cursed doll ?

Max Raafat

Always love when you explain stuff that I already now, since you also explain intricacies of it that I didn't know. :)

Inori

In NA/EU, for my Surge blade, I opted for Keen Blunt instead of Cursed Doll.
Reason being that, although Im getting 1%-ish less damage, I also run adrenaline, so cursed doll would never be the 16% promised.
Not to mention that KBW scales better, because if I have a 10%/18% crit synergy in my party, my dps potential is higher than it'd be with Cursed Doll.
Also avoiding the penalty is nice, but I dont mind it either. I chose it just for the potential dps increase, and since I run in a static with a Wardancer, it's optimal for my case and its the best dps engraving after Grudge.

Vic W

@Inori Okay, that makes more sense after all... I have never heard if Surge is in fact additive, as it works via the buff bar, but Ether Predator does work the same I guess. Surge is already a weird engraving with its exponential dmg per stack - as someone tested it to be. I'd argue atk power that's additive would be reverse exponential in dmg output but it doesnt work out like that..

Inori

@Vic W again surge gives 1%atk power per stack, so cursed doll paired with surge and Adrenaline wont give that much either (Will give around 14%)
