Bang

Sitting in a SDT
Waiting for an underground train
To rumble underneath my feet

Bang goes another day
Where it went I could not say
Now I'll have to wait another week
When all is said and all is done
What was said was never done
Don't panic, it's not really worth your while

Bang goes another year
In and out of one ear
Everybody's doing it, so do it too

I don't need anyone
But a little love would make things better
I don't need anyone
But a little love would make things better

Sitting on the early bus
Passing through the morning rush
It makes no difference that I'm not with you

Bang goes another year
In and out of one ear
Everybody's doing it, I'll do it too

I don't need anyone
But a little love would make things better
I don't need anyone
But a little love would make things better

Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah

I don't need anyone
But a little love would make things better
I don't need anyone
But a little of your love can make things better

I don't need anyone
But a little love would make things better

I don't need anyone
But a little of your love can make things better

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Blur's song "Bang" are cryptic but thought-provoking. The chorus "Kiss kiss kiss, bang bang bang" juxtaposes the romantic gesture of a kiss with the violent sound of a gunshot. It creates a powerful image of passion and destruction, which continues with the verse "Love and war, all is fair." It implies that love and war share a similar intensity, with the same line of casualties and the same ruthless strategies to win.

The next two lines "Mao Tse-tung and Uncle Sam, sold the world bought the car" critiques the leaders of China and America for their political ideologies being sold out to consumerism. The car is an emblem of materialism and the pursuit of wealth, which are values propagated by capitalist society. The next line "This time you've gone too far" suggests that, as a society, we have crossed a line in our addiction to consumerism and lost sight of what is important.

The song's verse then discusses the absurdity of human existence, with the lines "Run, run, run, kick, kick, kick, Everything makes me sick. Tick, tick, tick, tock, tock, tock, Mr. Hyde and Dr. Spock." It reflects the chaotic, senseless nature of life, and how it is governed by a ticking clock. Mr. Hyde and Dr. Spock are two opposing forces, one representing malevolence and the other intellect, further representing the inner conflict within ourselves.

Overall, "Bang" is a commentary on society, capitalism, and the human condition. It uses powerful and evocative imagery to portray a message of both urgency and despair.
