Ambulance
Blur Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I ain't got
Nothing to be scared of
No I ain't got
Nothing to be scared of
No I ain't got
Anything to be scared of
'Cause I love you
I was born out of love
It's the only way to come into this world
I know I'm not all there
But I'm getting, getting, getting there
If you let me live my life
I'll stay with you to the end
And I know, lord
I'm nearly there
I want to tell you this

I ain't got
Nothing to be scared of, no
No I ain't got
Nothing to be scared of, no
No I ain't got
Anything to be scared
'Cause I love you

I ain't got
Nothing to be scared of
No ain't got
Nothing to be scared of

I ain't got
Nothing to be scared of

No I ain't got
Nothing to be scared

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Blur's song "Ambulance" exude a feeling of comfort and safety from the feeling of being scared. The repeated phrase "I ain't got nothing to be scared of" is sung in a calm and reassuring tone, as if trying to convince someone that they have nothing to fear. The lyrics seem to be addressed to a person that the singer loves, and the fact that they don't have to be scared implies that they will always be protected and loved.

The second part of the song shifts towards a more personal perspective, as if the singer is talking about their own life. The lines "I was born out of love, It's the only way to come into this world" suggest a belief in the importance of a loving upbringing. The line "I know I'm not all there, but I'm getting, getting, getting there" could be interpreted as an acknowledgement of personal struggles, but also a determination to improve and grow. Then, the singer directly addresses their loved one, saying "If you let me live my life, I'll stay with you to the end" indicating a desire for a continued relationship and support from that person. The song finishes with a repeat of "I ain't got nothing to be scared of," emphasizing the message of comfort and safety.

Overall, "Ambulance" is a comforting song that reassures listeners with its calming tone and lyrics about love and protection. It suggests that having someone to love and support you can alleviate fears and make life feel more secure.

One of the most moving songs ever made. When Damon sings "I was born out of love..." it's just with such a fragile honesty.

This is one of those songs that must have really blown my 6-year-old mind when I first listened to it. I believe my stepdad was the person who brought Think Tank into the family, and it's been one of the cornerstone albums of my childhood that helped blossom my music taste and who I am today.

Believe it or not, but this was my basis on what I thought "Blur" was. Blur without the legendary Graham Coxon was who I thought the band was for a long time. This bleak, grey and red aesthetic still kinda pops up to the forefront of my mind when I think of "Blur", even though I'm now much more used to their britpop, guitar-heavy aspect.

Hearthing I honestly quite love this album, but it is a definite change of pace from their much earlier parts, so it's understandable that it's somewhat decisive.

Paul john pinky Bennett

I still play this song every couple of weeks, even after all this time because this album is a classic.
