Blur's self-titled fifth album (1997) saw another stylistic shift, influenced by the lo-fi styles of American indie rock groups, and became their third UK chart-topping album. Its single "Song 2" brought the band mainstream success in the US for the first time. Their next album, 13 (1999) saw the band experimenting with electronic and gospel music, and featured more personal lyrics from Albarn. Their seventh album, Think Tank (2003), continued their experimentation with electronic sounds and was also shaped by Albarn's growing interest in hip hop and world music, featuring more minimal guitar work. Coxon left the band during early recording sessions for Think Tank, and Blur disbanded for several years after the end of the album's associated tour, with the members engaged in other projects.
In 2009, Blur reunited with Coxon back in the band and embarked on a European reunion tour. In the following years, they released several singles and compilations and toured internationally. In 2012, they received a Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music. Their eighth album, The Magic Whip (2015), was the sixth consecutive Blur studio album to top the British chart. The group have largely been on hiatus since the Magic Whip tour, but have announced plans to reunite in 2023 for various live dates.

Entertain Me
Blur Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But so is he
Head to the floodlights
See the fraternity
They are waiting
I hear them up in the north
And down in the south
And all that is spewing
Entertain me
At his and hers dating
Bored minds agree
Requirements to be stated
Replies awaited
She wants a loose fit
He wants instant whip
He guesstimates her arrival
Will she want it really badly
Entertain me
A car, a house, both in a street
The boredom of the sober week
The weekend's here, hip hip hooray
To make the blues just go away
Entertain me
The lyrics in Blur's song "Entertain Me" create vivid images of the singer's experiences during the weekend. The opening lines introduce the return of the weekend, but also the return of a person who is not specified, who is most likely not welcome. The singer then paints a picture of the typical weekend activities they witness, in which the "fraternity" gathers under the floodlights, shouting and spewing "all that is spewing out of his mouth." By begging the people around him to "entertain me," the song's narrator seems to be reaching for any means of distraction or respite from the dullness that surrounds him.
The second verse reveals that there is more to the singer's desires than just being entertained. He longs for some kind of wild adventure or excitement, which seems to elude him as all he can find is the monotony of the pub and the predictability of relationships. The lyrics capture the cyclical boredom, dissatisfaction, and desire of everyday life. The final chorus emphasizes the plea for salvation from boredom and mundanity, as he cries out "Entertain me" once again. Overall, the lyrics capture the disillusionment and entrapment experienced by individuals caught in the societal systems that caters to the needs of the masses- but leaves individuals truly feeling alone and unfulfilled.

I love this song but the album is all a bit too cold and sneering. Even the band didn't like it. Parklife and Modern Life is Rubbish are much better.
