Blur's self-titled fifth album (1997) saw another stylistic shift, influenced by the lo-fi styles of American indie rock groups, and became their third UK chart-topping album. Its single "Song 2" brought the band mainstream success in the US for the first time. Their next album, 13 (1999) saw the band experimenting with electronic and gospel music, and featured more personal lyrics from Albarn. Their seventh album, Think Tank (2003), continued their experimentation with electronic sounds and was also shaped by Albarn's growing interest in hip hop and world music, featuring more minimal guitar work. Coxon left the band during early recording sessions for Think Tank, and Blur disbanded for several years after the end of the album's associated tour, with the members engaged in other projects.
In 2009, Blur reunited with Coxon back in the band and embarked on a European reunion tour. In the following years, they released several singles and compilations and toured internationally. In 2012, they received a Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music. Their eighth album, The Magic Whip (2015), was the sixth consecutive Blur studio album to top the British chart. The group have largely been on hiatus since the Magic Whip tour, but have announced plans to reunite in 2023 for various live dates.

Nothing can,touch you know
I need to know
Did you think of me?
But you're forgetting me now
Slow down, don't be so
Eager to let me go
It could change your mind
Try, try, try
Try, try, try
All things remain the same
So why try again?
Try again
Slow down, don't be so
Eager to let me go
I need to know
Did you think of me?
But you've forgotten me now
Try, try, try
Try, try, try
All things remain the same
So why try again?
Try again, try again, try again
Try, try, try
Try, try, try
All things remain the same
So why try again?
Try again, try again, try again
Try, try, yeah
Try, try, yeah
The song "Repetition" by Blur is a melancholic reflection on the end of a relationship. The first verse portrays the singer as someone who was once so confident and sure of themselves, nothing could touch them. However, they are now forgotten by their partner who is eager to move on. The singer questions whether they were even thought of by the other person. The chorus repeats the phrase "try, try, try" as if encouraging themselves to make an effort to save the relationship, but ultimately questioning whether it's worth it as "all things remain the same." The second verse repeats the message of the first verse and the song ends with one final plea to give it another try.
Overall, the song conveys a sense of sadness and resignation, as the singer realizes that their efforts to save the relationship might be futile. The repetition of the chorus reinforces the frustration and futility of their efforts, as they appear to be going through the motions without any real hope of success.
