It definitely lost the original meaning of the song but, to me, it allows for a new interpretation that I really like. When I listen to this cover it makes me think of all the comedians who have battled with mental illnesses or addictions (Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Robin Williams, Louis CK and an upsettingly long list of others) and how it must feel to have to put on this persona that is so different from how you are actually feeling.
