500%, mo' man
A livin' dream
Bo Diddley, baby
Mo' man than you ever seen

Strong and handsome
And a teasin' tan
Bo Diddley, baby
A nat'ral born man

Some of you people think
That the man growin' old
But I'm still 'round here, baby
And I let the good time roll

Now, when I was a baby
The prettiest thing you ever seen
A young women's wish
And a old women's dream

Teasin' tan
500% mo' man
A livin' dream

Now, when I went to school
I stop and went in
Now, I'm a man, baby
Standin' amongst men

Now, when you see me comin'
Ya gonna get upset
Pull out yo' hair
Break out in a cold sweat

Overall Meaning

In Bo Diddley's song "500% More Man", he is declaring that he is a natural born man and teasingly proclaims that he is "500% mo' man" than anyone has ever seen before. Bo Diddley starts off the song by bragging about his strength and good looks, using a teasing tone to playfully remind listeners of his masculinity. He then talks about how some people believe that he is growing old, but he insists that he is still around and able to "let the good times roll".

Bo Diddley then reflects on his childhood, claiming that he was the prettiest thing anyone had ever seen and the wish of young women and the dream of old women. He then transitions into talking about his growth into manhood, reminiscing on his time in school and proudly stating that he now stands amongst men. Bo Diddley then warns listeners that when they see him coming, they will become upset, pulling out their hair and breaking out into cold sweats out of fear or jealousy of his power.

This is the re-recorded, censored version without the line, "I can lay more pipe than a plumber can."

@Choock5219 Were you old enough to listen to the radio in 1963? If you were, then you would have heard that line. Or you would have, if you lived in St. Louis or Los Angeles and probably plenty of other places, if you listened to black radio. By some miracle, the uncensored version was on iTunes, when it first went live. So, naturally, I downloaded it. But, I didn't back up and lost it to a crash. I've been looking for the un-bowdlerized version ever since. Well, looking on line, anyway. I was 27 in 1963. So, as you can imagine, I "don't get around much, anymore," here of late, thanks to old age and fifty years of cigarette-smoking. I'm lucky to be still alive. Wonder why Pipe-Layin' Blues by St. Louis Jimmy isn't also a problem.

+hwgray Never heard the uncensored version, the audio was taken directly from the pictured 45 released in 1963. Where did you hear the uncensored version?
