I Want You
Bob Dylan Lyrics
The guilty undertaker sighs
The lonesome organ grinder cries
The silver saxophones say I should refuse you
The cracked bells and washed-out horns
Blow into my face with scorn, but it's
Not that way, I wasn't born to lose you
I want you
I want you
I want you, so bad
The drunken politician leaps
Upon the street where mothers weep
And the saviors who are fast asleep, they wait for you
And I wait for them to interrupt
Me drinkin' from my broken cup
And ask me to open up the gate for you
I want you
I want you
Yes I want you, so bad
Honey, I want you
How all my fathers, they've gone down
True love they've been without it
But all their daughters put me down
'Cause I don't think about it
Well, I return to the Queen of Spades
And talk with my chambermaid
She knows that I'm not afraid to look at her
She is good to me and there's
Nothing she doesn't see
She knows where I'd like to be but it doesn't
Matter
I want you
I want you
Yes I want you, so bad
Honey, I want you
Now your dancing child with his Chinese suit he
Spoke to me, I took his flute
No, I wasn't very cute to him, was I?
But I did it, because he lied and
Because he took you for a ride
And because time was on his side and
Because I
Want you
I want you
Yes I want you, so bad
Honey, I want you

It has been argued that the song is about Anita Pallenberg, at the time the girlfriend of Brian Jones, because of the line "Now your dancing child with his chinese suit/ He spoke to me, I took his flute.
No, I wasn't very cute to him". Brian Jones was known to Dylan and they hung out when Dylan was in London. The relationship was amicable but also tense, ending up in a car chase and car crash (without any casualties) in the middle of the night. Jones used to wear a chinese shirt at the time. Another line states that "time was on his side", perhaps referencing a Rolling Stones song from 1964, called 'Time is On My Side'. Pallenberg later had two children with Keith Richards.

Johann, I agree! Close to Dylan's age so I grew up with him. I appreciate that
a person who isn't stuck in one room of the 'mansion' always evolves. Appreciate
past but view life from the engine & not the caboose. Dylan always evolving as
a musician & as a human. Hope YOU & all enjoy my eclectic daily playlist, I included this video today. Check back, new songs added & rotated daily

I used to listen to this song while riding with my dad in his car back in the 70s. One of my all time favorite songs. My dad is 77 and as soon as this plague lifts, I have to get him and take him out for a drive and put this on.
