I Got You
Bob Dylan and Janis Joplin Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I know you rider, you're gonna miss me when I'm gone
I know you rider, you're gonna miss me when I'm gone
You're gonna miss your lovin' baby runnin', I said runnin' in your arms

Don't the moon look lonesome, when it's shinin' down through the trees
Don't the moon look lonesome, when it's shinin' down through the trees
Don't my, don't my man looks fine, when he comes runnin', runnin' after me
I know you rider, you're gonna miss me when I'm gone, honey when I'm gone
Say now, I know you rider, you're gonna miss me when I'm gone
You're gonna miss your lovin' baby runnin', I said runnin' in your arms!

I know you rider. you're gonna miss me when I'm gone
I know you rider, you're gonna miss me when I'm gone
Yeah, you're gonna miss your lovin' baby runnin',
oh, I said runnin' in your arms!

And I know my baby, says he's bound to love me so, love me so
Said I, I know my baby, and he's bound to love me so
You know he'll close his arms around me,
like a circle, he thinks I'll understand

I know you rider
Said you're gonna miss me when I'm gone

Overall Meaning

In this song, "I know you rider," the singer is confident that their lover will miss them when they're gone. They sing that their lover will miss holding them in their arms, and how the moon appears lonesome when it shines through the trees. They also comment on the physical appearance of their partner, saying, "don't my man look fine when he comes runnin', runnin' after me."

The lyrics' repetition of "I know you rider, you're gonna miss me when I'm gone," emphasizes the singer's certainty that their partner will deeply feel their absence. The final verse suggests a mutual understanding between the singer and their partner - "You know he'll close his arms around me, like a circle, he thinks I'll understand." It's also worth noting that the title of the song refers to a traditional folk song that was popularized by the Grateful Dead.

Did you come here to listen to the song? or did you come here to show everyone , you are right and they are wrong? RIP Janis Joplin , Long live Bob Dyland and Joan Baez

@gianmariobarzio

IL MITICO BOB DYLAN......é sempre un piacere riascoltare le sue canzoni, ci
ricorda tempi migliori, che non ritorneranno mai più.

Esta voz realmente é de Janis Joplin. Quem conhece o disco Early Performance, de Janis, jamais duvidaria. Abraços e beijos, Emmanuel Casado dos Santos.

@Barrylayy

This is Joan and Dylan for sure. The recording is slowed down considerably. They were a lot fun to watch/listen to when they sang together. Dylan is not the only one who changed voices during these playful duets. Joan would do "outright" Dylan impersonations while singing with him, it was very funny and these performances are classic.

@estoesesto4

Great Tribute Janis Joplin for Baez&Dylan.

@amarildo650

Que Janis Joplin èra fã de Bob Dylan ninguem duvida mas quero crer que seja tambem Joan Baez

@Jackrabbit_2

I remember downloading this and it was titled Bob and janis. I think they just uploaded the file. I wonder what janis and Bob would sound like???

@attachetrombone

Definitely Joan Baez here but this is my favourite version of the song. I remember downloading it on Limewire in the early 2000s and it was already credited to Janis Joplin and that's how I could find it again today!

@shakesazure

joan baez, cantando, com janis joplin e serguei!
