Sorrow
Bob Feldman Lyrics

The only thing I ever got from you
Was sorrow, sorrow
You're acting funny, try to spend my money
You out there playing your high class games
Of sorrow, sorrow
Something tells me you're the devil's daughter
Sorrow, sorrow
I tried to find her cause I can't resist her
I never knew just how much I missed her
Sorrow, sorrow
With your long blond hair and your eyes of blue
The only thing I ever got from you
Was sorrow, sorrow
With your long blond hair, I couldn't sleep last night
With your long blond hair
and your eyes of blue
The only thing I ever got from you
Was sorrow, sorrow
"Sorrow" is a song written by Bob Feldman, Jerry Goldstein, and Richard Gottehrer, all of whom were members of the 1960s group The Strangeloves. The song was first recorded and released by The McCoys in 1965 and was later covered by numerous artists, including David Bowie, who had a hit with the song in 1973.
The lyrics of the song describe a relationship that has only brought the singer sorrow. The object of his affection, with her long blond hair and blue eyes, seems to be playing games with him and taking advantage of his generosity. He suspects that she may even be the devil's daughter. Despite all of this, he can't resist her and misses her when she's gone.
The song's lyrics have been interpreted in a few different ways. Some see it as a cautionary tale about falling for someone who is not really interested in a serious relationship, while others see it as a critique of the shallow materialism of the 1960s.
