"Running Away" is a Song from the Kaya tenth studio album released by Bob Marley and the Wailers in 1978. The album consists of tracks recorded alongside those present on the Exodus album in 1977.
The album has a very relaxed, laid back sound, lacking much of the militant quality of the Wailers lyrically and musically. They received criticism for 'going soft' as a result of the general sound of the album as well as the theme: songs primarily revolving around love, as well as marijuana.
The album's release coincided with the One Love Peace Concert, heralding Marley's triumphant return to Jamaica from exodus in London. Three of the songs are new versions of tracks from the 1971 album Soul Revolution Part II. Well-known songs from the album include "Is This Love" and "Satisfy My Soul". Kaya reached the top five in the UK album charts.

You're running and you're running and you're running away
You're running and you're running
But you can't run away from yourself
Can't run away from yourself
Can't run away from yourself
Can't run away from yourself
Can't run away from yourself
You must have done something wrong
Said you must have done something wrong
Why you can't find the place where you belong
Running away
Running away
Running away
Every man thinketh his burden is the heaviest
Every man thinketh his burden is the heaviest
But who feels it knows it, Lord
Who feels it knows it, Lord
Who feels it knows it, Lord
Who feels it knows it, Lord
You're running and you're running and you're running away
You're running and you're running and you're running away
You're running and you're running and you're running away
You're running and you're running
But you can't run away from yourself
Could you run away from yourself?
Can you run away from yourself?
Can't run away from yourself
Can't run away from yourself
You must have done something
Something, something, something,
Something, you don't want nobody to know about
You must have ... Lord
Something wrong you must have done
You must have done something wrong
Why you can't find where you belong
Well, well, well, well, you're running away
Running away, no, no, no, I'm not running away
No, don't say that, don't say that, 'cause I'm not running away
Got to protect my life
And I don't want to live with no strife
It is better to live on the house top
Than to live in a house full of confusion
So, I made my decision, and I left you
And now you coming to tell me
That I'm running away
But it's not true
I'm not running away
In the song "Running Away" by Bob Marley & The Wailers, the lyrics describe a person who is constantly running away from their problems but unable to escape themselves. The repeated phrase "You're running and you're running, but you can't run away from yourself" emphasizes the central problem the character is facing. The lyrics suggest that the person must have done something wrong, as they can't seem to find where they belong. The chorus repeats this idea with the lines "Running away, running away, you must have done something wrong, running away," suggesting that the character's inability to face their problems is causing them to continually run from them.
The line "Every man thinketh his burden is the heaviest, but who feels it knows it, Lord" suggests that everyone carries their own problems and struggles, and only they know how it feels. This line can serve as a reminder to not judge others' experiences because we don't know what they are going through. The song's message is ultimately one of self-reflection and confronting one's problems instead of running away from them.
In terms of musical style, "Running Away" features a classic reggae beat with Marley's signature raspy vocals. The song was initially released on the album "Kaya" in 1978 and remains a popular track in Marley's discography.

Written after Bob fled Jamaica & moved to England after the assassination attempt. There were detractors who implied that he was chicken chit for running away. This song is his response to those critics and at the same time addressing his own self-doubt.

Thanks for the info . I Love this song , Bob Marley is Courage & Truth in a corrupt World
@natletics
Unfortunately, this is not quite true. The original form was already published in 1966 by the Wailers under the title "He Who Feels It Knows It".
So "Running Away" is basically a derivative of the earlier version, which was created when the three prophets were still united. Certainly the attempted assassination had an influence on this interpretation. But also many other factors had a significant influence on this masterpiece of music history.

No, man. This is Bobโs way of saying. โYou canโt run away from yourself โ. Conscience, the mirror in the morning if you are prepared to have the balls to look at yourself. Otherwise keep runnin away from YOU YOURSELF. Dig deep and face up to you and your actions.
