Guiltiness is a Song from the Exodus 1977 album by Jamaican reggae band Bob Marley and the Wailers, first released in June 1977 through Island Records, following Rastaman Vibration (1976). The album's production has been characterized as laid-back with pulsating bass beats and an emphasis on piano, trumpet and guitar. Unlike previous albums from the band, Exodus thematically moves away from cryptic story-telling; instead it revolves around themes of change, religious politics, and sexuality. The album is split into two halves: the first half revolves around religious politics, while the second half is focused on themes of making love and keeping faith.
On 3 December 1976, an assassination attempt was made on Bob Marley's life in which his chest was grazed and his arm was struck with a bullet, but he survived. Following the assassination attempt, Marley left Jamaica and was exiled to London, where Exodus was recorded.
The album was a success both critically and commercially; it received gold certifications in the US, UK and Canada, and was the album that propelled Marley to international stardom. In 2017, Exodus was remastered and re-released for its 40th anniversary. Exodus has more tracks on Marley’s greatest hits compilation Legend than any of his other records. Exodus was his tenth album since the debut album The Wailing Wailers in 1965, including the live album Live! (1975).

Pressed on their conscience, oh yeah
Oh yeah
And they live their lives (they live live)
On false pretense everyday
Each and everyday yeah
These are the big fish (these are the big fish)
And just the small fish
I tell you what, they would do anything
To materialize their every wish
Oh yeah yeah yeah yeah
But they woe to the down pressers
They'll eat the bread of sorrow
Woe to the down pressers
They'll eat the bread of sad tomorrow
Woe to the down pressers
They'll eat the bread of sorrow
Oh, yeah yeah! Oh, yeah yeah yeah yeah
Guiltiness (talking about guiltiness)
Pressed on their conscience, oh yeah, oh yeah
These are the big fish (these are the big fish)
Who always try to eat down the small fish
A just the small fish
And I tell you what (they would do anything)
To materialize their every wish
Oh yeah yeah yeah yeah
But woe, woe to the down pressers
They'll eat the bread of sorrow
Woe to the down pressers
They'll eat the bread of sad tomorrow
Woe to the down pressers
They'll eat the bread of sad tomorrow
Oh, yeah! Oh, yeah yeah yeah yeah
Guiltiness, oh yes
They'll eat the bread of sorrow (everyday) everyday (oh yeah)
And they'll eat the bread of sad tomorrow (everyday) everyday
Bob Marley's song "Guiltiness" talks about the guilt that some people feel because they live their lives on false pretenses. The song alludes to those who are in positions of power, those who Marley refers to as the "big fish", who try to eat down the smaller fish. These people will do anything to achieve their every wish, and as a result, Marley sings of the guilt that they carry.
The song suggests that these "big fish" will eventually pay for their actions. Marley sings, "Woe to the down pressers, they'll eat the bread of sorrow." The phrase "down pressers" is a metaphor for those in positions of power who oppress others. The bread of sorrow refers to the difficulties that these individuals will eventually face as a result of their actions.
The repetition of the phrase "oh yeah" throughout the song emphasizes the frustration and anger that Marley feels towards these "big fish". The song serves as a warning to those in power that they will eventually face the consequences of their actions, and that they must change their ways before it is too late.

La culpabilité (En parlant de culpabilité)
Pèse sur leur conscience. Oh oui !
Oh oui !
La culpabilité ! oh oui !
Ils mangeront le pain de l’affliction
Tous les jours.
Oh oui !
