During 1970 and 1971, Wailer, Marley and Tosh worked with renowned reggae producers Leslie Kong and Lee "Scratch" Perry.
They released four albums before signing to Island Records in 1972. Two more albums were created before Tosh and Wailer left the band in 1974, citing grievances over label treatment and ideological differences. Marley carried on with a new line-up, including the I-Threes that put out seven more more albums. Marley died in 1981.
The Wailers were a groundbreaking ska and reggae group, noted for songs such as "Simmer Down", "Trenchtown Rock", "Nice Time", "War", "Stir It Up" and "Get Up, Stand Up".

Bob Marley & The Wailers Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Made a mistake, yes, I did, yes, I did
Now I'm so far from her, but it was me and my fate
Who lost because of my mistake
My trusting her has gone much too late
I've sent away the girl I love
I said, I've sent away the girl I love
Said, my bold heart been dying
Who is it who made that mistake?
Who is it who made that mistake?
Oh, what a fool I've been tonight
The girl I love is out of sight
Now I'm so far from her, but it was me and my fate
Who lost because of my mistake
My trusting her has gone much too late
Oh, what a fool I've been tonight
The girl I love is out of sight
Now I'm so far from her, but it was me and my fate
Who lost because of my mistake, my, my mistake
Who lost because of my mistake
In the song "I", Bob Marley & The Wailers express their remorse and vulnerability regarding a mistake they made in a relationship. The repeated line "Made a mistake, yes, I did" emphasizes the guilt and regret they feel. The lyrics also suggest that their lack of trust caused them to lose the person they loved; "My trusting her has gone much too late." The repeated question "Who is it who made that mistake?" highlights the internal struggle of taking responsibility for their actions.
Overall, the lyrics convey a sense of sadness and loss as the singer realizes the consequences of their mistake. The final lines "My mistake, my, my mistake / Who lost because of my mistake" display a deep recognition of personal responsibility.

It is only Bob Marley and Michael Jackson that can sit on the same table and enjoy a meal of corn porridge while watching Thriller play on the TV. The two greatest musicians of all time 🙌👑🙌👑🙌
Counting down from 7 days when I can finally watch Bob’s biopic ‘One Love’ on February 14th.
