Bob Marley and the Wailers (previously known as The Wailers, and prior to t… Read Full Bio ↴Bob Marley and the Wailers (previously known as The Wailers, and prior to that The Wailing Rudeboys, The Wailing Wailers and The Teenagers) were a Jamaican ska, rocksteady and reggae band. The founding members, in 1963, were Bob Marley (Robert Nesta Marley), Peter Tosh (Hubert Winston McIntosh), and Bunny Wailer (Neville Livingston).

During 1970 and 1971, Wailer, Marley and Tosh worked with renowned reggae producers Leslie Kong and Lee "Scratch" Perry.

They released four albums before signing to Island Records in 1972. Two more albums were created before Tosh and Wailer left the band in 1974, citing grievances over label treatment and ideological differences. Marley carried on with a new line-up, including the I-Threes that put out seven more more albums. Marley died in 1981.

The Wailers were a groundbreaking ska and reggae group, noted for songs such as "Simmer Down", "Trenchtown Rock", "Nice Time", "War", "Stir It Up" and "Get Up, Stand Up".

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Bob Marley & The Wailers's song I'm Still Waiting are about a man who is waiting for the woman he loves to reciprocate his feelings. The singer is so deeply in love that he cannot stand being away from her. He describes how every little beat of his heart is at her door, and he just wants to love her without ever hurting her. This is a wicked tune, i first hear it when I was a little over 10 years old in the sixties, i love it then, and it's loving me back in 2020, amid the coronavirus pandemic, this song just shows how talented and versatile the Wailers group were, in addition! these young men at the time when these songs were been played, they probably didn't even get a dime for these songs, but there's something the "DOWN PRESSERS" don't know, "You Can't Keep A Good Man Down" nuff said!

it's Bob. Junior was not at this session from around Oct, 1965. The song reached #14 on the JA charts in Jan, 1966. Bunny has said the inspiration for the song was Billy Stewart's Sitting in the Park.

Anyone one who listens to reggae and doesn't understand the influence that other music's had on it is a sinner....you need to understand the foundations that the leaders understood before they made the music you enjoy so much...look at Waiting In Vain off Exodus....that song is clearly a return to this style.....listen to real island music and you will hear them imitate American soul music...listen to Desmond Dekker and the Israelites before going any further....there are so many groups and individuals who shaped Marley, Tosh, Bunny...and many many others....let the music that inspired them inspire you...rather then just mindlessly absorbing the art they made without reflection on who they made it for..why they made it...and most importantly..who showed them how to do it

By introducing who I was talking to. If it doesnt apply to you, then keep moving. Your right to say that if someone is here, then more then likely they would be ahead of the curve. You seemed to down play American soul music because it gets alot of praise already, or is overrated. Surely you wouldnt say the same for First Wave Ska. Something I also mentioned. But others in the crowd thought they were very out of place. If they knew anything about the roots of reggae, they would understand that the music goes hand in hand. Its ignorance.
