During 1970 and 1971, Wailer, Marley and Tosh worked with renowned reggae producers Leslie Kong and Lee "Scratch" Perry.
They released four albums before signing to Island Records in 1972. Two more albums were created before Tosh and Wailer left the band in 1974, citing grievances over label treatment and ideological differences. Marley carried on with a new line-up, including the I-Threes that put out seven more more albums. Marley died in 1981.
The Wailers were a groundbreaking ska and reggae group, noted for songs such as "Simmer Down", "Trenchtown Rock", "Nice Time", "War", "Stir It Up" and "Get Up, Stand Up".

Aah-aah-aah-aah-aah-aah-aah-aah-aah-aah-aah-aah
(I am going home)
Well, when I look over Jordan, what did I see
(Coming for to carry me home?)
Well there's a whole bunch of angels that're coming
(Coming for to carry me home) Well, everybody
(I am going home)
Aah-aah-aah-aah-aah-aah-aah-aah-aah-aah-aah-aah
(I am going home)
And if you reach up-a there before I do
(Coming for to carry me home)
Just tell everyone that I'm a-coming up there too
(Coming for to carry me home) Everybody
(I am going home)
Aah-aah-aah-aah-aah-aah-aah-aah-aah-aah-aah-aah

The lyrics of "I Am Going Home" by Bob Marley express a longing for the spiritual home of heaven. The song begins with the repetition of the phrase "I am going home," emphasizing the singer's desire to leave this earthly world and be reunited with their spiritual home. The following lines reference the biblical story of Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt and across the Jordan river to reach the promised land. In the song, the singer looks over the Jordan river and sees a host of angels coming to carry them home.
The lyrics also speak to the idea of community and togetherness in the afterlife. The singer expresses their desire to be with others in heaven, asking those who arrive before them to tell everyone that they are on their way. The repetition of the phrase "everybody" further emphasizes the importance of being together in the spiritual home. The song ends with the refrain "girl, I'm a-going home," once again emphasizing the singer's longing and excitement to be reunited with their home and loved ones in the afterlife.
Overall, "I Am Going Home" is a song that speaks to the human desire for connection and belonging, both on earth and in the spiritual realm.
