The album has a very relaxed, laid back sound, lacking much of the militant quality of the Wailers lyrically and musically. They received criticism for 'going soft' as a result of the general sound of the album as well as the theme: songs primarily revolving around love, as well as marijuana.
The album's release coincided with the One Love Peace Concert, heralding Marley's triumphant return to Jamaica from exodus in London. Three of the songs are new versions of tracks from the 1971 album Soul Revolution Part II. Well-known songs from the album include "Is This Love" and "Satisfy My Soul". Kaya reached the top five in the UK album charts.

This is such a timeless video where you can see Bob Marley happily interacting so beautifully with children…the love of his life. The videographer did such a wonderful job interrelating what appears to be kids birthday celebration to how Bob Marley weaves love into everyone’s heart, regardless of race. In this video, it shows no preference to any race. And if our teaching of the same is practiced from earlier life, racism will eventually become of the past. Although Bob Marley’s life was brief, his appearance in our lives left so much timeless joy to embrace.

Those lucky children are now adults in their 40’s and perhaps early 50’s. I was 8. Didn’t know who Bob was back then. I’m sure I heard of him.
He was a humble man. I’ve heard stories that he would just chill at people’s homes here in London. He didn’t have a big ego.

Today at work I was disrespected as I was playing this lovely song. A coworker said we should change the station because it’s “ass”. I will never understand people that have a dislike for this kind of music. Very sad, but like everything I encounter it’s about peace and love. Will forever be myself expressing my love for music
