Uprising would be the final studio album featuring Bob Marley & the Wailers to be released during Marley's lifetime. Prophetically, it also contains some of the band's finest crafted material, as if they were cogent that this would be their final outing. The album's blend of religious and secular themes likewise creates a very powerful and singular quest for spirituality in a material world.

Come together and make it work, yeah
We can make it work
We can make it work
Five days to go, working for the next day
Four days to go, working for the next day
Say we got, three days to go now, working for the next day
Say we got, one day to go, working for the
Every day is
Work
Work
Work
Work
We can make it work
We can make it work
We, Jah people, can make it work
Come together and make it work
We can make it work
We can make it work
We got, five days to go work, oh, working for the next day, eh
Four days to go, working for the
Three days to go now, working for the next day, yeah
Two days to go, working for the next day
Say we got, one day to go now, working for
Every day is work, wotcha-wa
(Work) I work in the mid-day sun
(Work) I work 'til the evening come
(Work) if ya ain't got nothing to do
(Work) ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
(Work)
The song "Work" by Bob Marley & The Wailers is a rallying cry for people to come together and work towards a better future. The lyrics talk about the daily grind of work, with references to counting down the days until the next day of work. The song acknowledges that work is a necessary part of life, but also encourages people to find common ground and work together to achieve their goals. The repeated refrain "We can make it work" emphasizes the message of unity and hope.
The lyrics of "Work" speak to the struggle and perseverance of the working-class. Bob Marley himself comes from a background of poverty and hard work, so the song likely reflects his own experiences. The use of the term "Jah people" refers to Rastafarians, a group that Marley was a part of. Rastafarians believe in unity and equality for all people, and the theme of unity is present throughout the song. The repetition of the word "work" adds to the feeling of drudgery and monotony, but it also serves to highlight the importance of hard work and determination.
Overall, "Work" is a song that celebrates the power of collective action and speaks to the struggles faced by working-class people. Its message is still relevant today, and the idea that we can come together and make things work is one that resonates with people around the world.

All Bob Marley songs are my favorites, but I am particularly fond of this one. I’ve had friends in the past who weren’t initially drawn to this song, but due to my constant playing it, they ended up loving it. This is a faith affirming song for Rastafari. They are the people of Jah, and they will keep at it 24/7 through faith, until the desired result is attained.
