I Wanna Love You
Bob Marley vs. MGMT Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But never by my side?
All beginnings are an end,
In the blackness there's a light
Maybe you will only read
One or two letters at the most
Shipping crates might line the streets,
Every stranger is a ghost
Loneliness sleeps on the couch
Only noticing the stain
Once the color's faded out
Let's go camping in the cold,
Make a fire, buy a tent
Envision leather getting old,
Re-send pigeons that were sent
Try to memorize your smell,
It reminds me of a field
Crickets clearer than a bell
Have all their guts recast in steel
Birds don't cry when echoes quit,
They trail off into the fog
Autumn hurts far less than sticks,
Knowing winter's five feet tall
Generations of defeat
All assuming your the worst
They never tied the cans
To the back end of a hearse
Take your hand against my own,
If there's a finger I can grip
Reassure me at the ace
Mine's a black heart you could flip
I've come to terms with what I have,
What's been given, what's been asked
Turn my back against the sea,
And beg the serpent for a dance
But in the red dirt muddy towns,
Celebration of the dark
Children walking hand in hand
With the pygmies in the park
I can't touch you only once,
You always leave me wanting more
So keep my feet within the house,
And stick my toes just past the door
Let me know when I'm in love,
Let me die when I'm in love

Who is much more than a friend,
Who is someone more than a friend but not always by my side
But never by my side?
But isn't always by my side
All beginnings are an end,
All things that start will eventually come to an end
In the blackness there's a light
Even in the darkest situations, there is still hope
Maybe you will only read
Perhaps you'll only manage to read
One or two letters at the most
Just one or two letters, at most
Shipping crates might line the streets,
Large boxes may clutter the roads
Every stranger is a ghost
Every unfamiliar person is like a spooky figure
Cashiers won't deduct the pain,
Cashiers can't subtract the hurt that we feel
Loneliness sleeps on the couch
Solitude rests on the sofa
Only noticing the stain
Only recognizing the mark
Once the color's faded out
After the color has vanished
Let's go camping in the cold,
We should embark on a freezing outdoor adventure
Make a fire, buy a tent
Build a fire and purchase a tent
Envision leather getting old,
Picture leather deteriorating
Re-send pigeons that were sent
Repeat the act of sending previously dispatched birds
Try to memorize your smell,
Attempt to remember your scent
It reminds me of a field
It brings to mind memories of a field
Crickets clearer than a bell
Crickets that are louder and clearer than a ringing bell
Have all their guts recast in steel
Have their insides replaced with metal
Birds don't cry when echoes quit,
Birds don't mourn when their echoes fade away
They trail off into the fog
Rather, they disappear in the mist
Autumn hurts far less than sticks,
Autumn is less painful than being struck by sticks
Knowing winter's five feet tall
Realizing how high the snow will be in the winter
Generations of defeat
Years of losses and setbacks
All assuming your the worst
All assuming that you're someone bad
They never tied the cans
They never hung cans
To the back end of a hearse
On the back of a funeral car
Take your hand against my own,
Place your hand against mine
If there's a finger I can grip
If there's a finger that I can hold onto
Reassure me at the ace
Comfort me when it matters most
Mine's a black heart you could flip
I have a heart that's so dark it could be overturned
I've come to terms with what I have,
I've accepted what I possess
What's been given, what's been asked
What's been offered, what's been requested
Turn my back against the sea,
I turn away from the ocean
And beg the serpent for a dance
And plead with a snake to dance with me
But in the red dirt muddy towns,
Yet in the murky towns made of red soil
Celebration of the dark
They celebrate the unknown
Children walking hand in hand
Kids holding each other's hands
With the pygmies in the park
With a group of pygmies in the park
I can't touch you only once,
I can't touch you just once
You always leave me wanting more
You always make me crave for more
So keep my feet within the house,
So keep me safely within the house
And stick my toes just past the door
And let me extend my toes barely beyond the door
Let me know when I'm in love,
Inform me when I'm in love
Let me die when I'm in love
Allow me to pass away while I'm in love

I agree and I'm listening in 2020. I think its a great way to play both songs. The messages connect too if you study the lyrics. Its like the MGMT song kids needs the Bob Marley song to save it. Not saying kids is bad but the song is sad cuz it feels like someone is so hurt by wahts happening to him. He needs a powerful msg of love to blast his/her consciousness down a different path.

I discovered this song because I saw a video of this kid in the UK vomiting into a bong and this song was playing in the background and I just had to look it up. So props to that kid because if he never threw up I would have never heard this song.
