That keeps you away from me
Baby, it's only your imagination
That won′t let you be what you want to be
Well, it seems that you're always thinkin'
You′ve got a busy, busy mind
But that wasn′t me you saw last night
Baby, it's only your imagination
That keeps you away from me
Baby, it′s only your imagination
That won't let you be what you want to be
I told you that I love you
And you′re the only one for me
So don't let your imagination
Run away from reality
Baby, it's only your imagination
That keeps you away from me
Baby, it′s only your imagination
That won′t let you be what you want to be
Baby, it's only your imagination
That keeps you away from me
Baby, it′s only your imagination
That won't let you be what you want to be
Baby, it′s only your imagination
That keeps you away from me
Baby, it's only your imagination
That won′t let you be what you want to be
The lyrics of "Imagination" by Bobbie Gentry and Glen Campbell are a plea to a lover who is plagued by their own imagination. The singer is trying to convince their loved one that it is only their imagination that is causing distance between them. The beloved has a "busy, busy mind" and is seeing things that aren't there, as evidenced by the line, "But that wasn't me you saw last night." The singer insists that they are the only one for their lover, and that they should not let their imaginations "run away from reality."
The song could be interpreted in a number of ways, but it seems to be about the power of the mind and how it can sometimes deceive us. The singer is urging their lover to come back to reality and not let their imagination keep them apart.
