Dropkick Me Jesus
Bobby Bare Lyrics

This one's for all the football fans

Dropkick me, Jesus, through the goal posts of life
End over end, neither left nor to right
Straight through the heart of them, righteous up rights
Dropkick me, Jesus, through the goal posts of life

Make me, oh, make me, Lord, more than I am
Make me a piece in Your master game plan
Free from the earthly tem pestion below
I've got the will, Lord, if You got the toe

Dropkick me, Jesus, through the goal posts of life
End over end, neither left nor to right
Straight through the heart of them, righteous up rights
Dropkick me, Jesus, through the goal posts of life

Bring on the brothers who've gone on before
And all of the sisters who've knocked on your door
All the departed, dear, loved ones of mine
Stick 'em up front in the offensive line

Dropkick me, Jesus, through the goal posts of life
End over end, neither left nor to right
Straight through the heart of them, righteous up rights
Dropkick me, Jesus, through the goal posts of life

A lowly bench warmer I'm contented to be
Until the time when you have need of me
The flash on the scoreboard that shines upon high
And the big Super Bowl way up in the sky

And Dropkick me, Jesus, through the goal posts of life
End over end, neither left nor to right
Straight through the heart of them, righteous up rights
Dropkick me, Jesus, through the goal posts of life

Dropkick me, Jesus, through the goal posts of life

In his later years of life, my grandpa suffered with dementia and early stages of Alzheimer's. He was a musically talented man who played guitar mostly. I'd hand him his guitar and say hey grandpa can you play something for me? Drop kick me Jesus was the only song he could remember how to sing and play. He passed away about about a week ago and we played this at his funeral. It'll always be a fond memory I'll have of him.

Hopefully Jesus dropkicked him through the goal posts of life!

My grandpa had dementia really bad but the only things he could remember was that he loved chicken gizzards and livers and he could remember every word of Marty robins “a white sport coat”. He couldn’t even talk but when you played that song which was always his favorite he would try to dance and he would sing. I always liked that song but I find myself listening to it over and over while thinking of the memories I made with my grandpa

My dad absolutely loved this song. I had never actually listened to it (not really) until he passed away about a month ago. So we played it at his memorial. My uncle (his closest brother) came up to us after the memorial and said he had heard the song only like 8 years ago and came home that night and told his wife he found the song he wanted played at his funeral. So needless to say, it was perfect. It will always remind me of my dad. ❤️
