Darin was a very special and talented entertainer. He was a Grammy award winning singer ('Mack The Knife'), a respected member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ('Dream Lover', 'Splish Splash', 'If I Were A Carpenter') a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, a successful record producer, an Oscar nominated actor and a strong supporter of the American Heart Association. Bobby was married to actress Sandra Dee from 1960-1967. They had one son, Dodd, born in December 1961. As a result of complications from a rheumatic heart, Bobby's life was tragically cut short in 1973.
Darin's mother, Vanina Cassotto, had given birth to him when she was 16, and as a result, her parents raised Darin as though he were their son while Vanina was presented off as his elder sister. Darin did not learn the truth about his parentage until he was 32.

Call Me Irresponsible
Bobby Darin Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Call me unreliable
Throw in undependable too
Do my foolish alibis bore you?
Well, I'm not too clever, I just adore you
Call me unpredictable
Tell me I'm impractical
Call me irresponsible
Yes, I'm unreliable
But it's undeniably true
That I'm irresponsibly mad for you
Go on and call me unpredictable
Tell me that I'm impractical
Rainbows I'm inclined to pursue
You go 'head and call me irresponsible
I admit I'm unreliable
But it is undeniably true
That I'm irresponsibly mad for you
Bobby Darin's "Call Me Irresponsible" is a song about someone who is willing to be called irresponsible, unreliable, and undependable as long as they are loved. The lyrics capture a person who has made mistakes and is not perfect, but they are ready to admit their faults and embrace them as part of their love for their partner. The song opens with the singer inviting their partner to call them all of these undesirable things, suggesting that they are willing to take on any label that comes along with their love.
The line "Do my foolish alibis bore you?" implies that the singer has made unwise decisions and tried to make excuses for them. However, the line that follows, "Well, I'm not too clever, I just adore you," shows that the singer's flaws are driven by their love for their partner. Despite being called irresponsible and unreliable, they remain committed to their relationship and will do whatever it takes to make it work.
It's a love song that encourages us to be more accepting of ourselves and our flaws, while at the same time highlighting the importance of love and commitment. It's a reminder that we don't have to be perfect to be deserving of love, and that sometimes it's our imperfections that make us more lovable and relatable.
